I also would trade the first for Trouba, no grade A prospect though.
Would be a sideways move at best. - the_eye
Yep.
I get the "not trading 1st" philosophy but we all kinda have that after years of trading the 1st for old players.
Trouba is the perfect age and fit for this team going forward even if he turns out to be the #4 and Zaitsev takes the #2.
If I'm not mistaken, it would be a good move for Peg too, since they can't protect all of their players in the expansion draft and can't sign Trouba any way. |

A couple things to catch up:
I would trade the 1st for Trouba...not much more and definitely not Nylander at all. The Leafs could only hope to get a D man as good in the draft but would have to wait 3 years for development time.
That being said our D line up would look a hell of a lot better like this:
Rielly, Trouba
Gardiner, Zaitsev
Marincin, Carrick
Hunwick, Polak
And last, good blog Lucas. Didn't hear Babcock talk about Martin and Bozak makes me rethink my line up:
JVR, Kadri, Brown
Komarov, Matthews, Nylander
Martin, Bozak, Marner
Michalek, Laich, Holland
....when we lose Michalek at the TDD bring in Sosh or Hyman.
Those forwards with that D...

I agree with that, but then you have to sign Trouba. Rumours were he was asking 7-8m from WPG. How could the Leafs justify paying him more than Rielly's 5m?

He will end up getting a bridge deal with someone for around 4 mill. My best guess. |

Well, they always ask for the moon and settle for less... As long as he's willing to buy in and sign for a reasonable deal then I'm for it - Ideally with a top-5 protection on the pick. Peg are only at 44 contracts so using a prospect or two in the deal isn't bad for either side. |

That's the only issue in my mind but apparently Peg has given his agent permission to talk so you offer him on par with Rielly. If he accepts, done. If he wants more...pass and go back to the plan.
Easy peasy. |

I think the Leafs' 1st is a pretty good/fair deal for him but if we had to add a few prospects...maybe we could use a few that we might lose to waivers...Corrado, Leivo etc...good prospects that suffer from no roster space.

Yeah. I like Leivo but would add him (and/or others if needed) in no problem if certain protections were in place on the 1st and a decent AAV agreed upon. |

I hope Matthews doesn't get too used to Marner. There is no way he can survive in the NHL. |

I know he's small but just you wait.
He could easily be 6"4 tomorrow. |

I bloody well hope so, because if he doesn't grow at least 5 inches taller, he'll be a wasted fourth overall draft pick. |

So Matthews apparently shattered a pane of rink glass. Who does he think he is, Happy Gilmore? |

Agreed on all points, especially Leivo. I think the kid could be a good, maybe great, winger...just never seems to get the right chance. |

I just endured listening to Button drone on and on about how Leivo will clear waivers if they send him down. |
