from what I heard speculated is that it was supposed to be just straight up Zibinajed for Brassard, but Ottawa didn't want to pay Brass big bonus he was due on July 15th, so the Rangers paid it and they insisted on the 2nd round pick to do so.

Ahh. That makes a bunch more sense.

so does anyone know when the Ott GM is being fired?? how the heck did he trade this kid? Zib looked like everything we have been asking for for years now. Big fast skilled center. Kreider looked a lot better as well. He looked really confident last night which is what he needs to do.

Woah, woah.. slow down a min.

Maybe Zibby has turned a corner, but the last two seasons in Ottawa were dreadful. He was out of shape, couldn't (or was unwilling to) win a puck battle, couldn't give or accept a pass on his backhand and had very little playmaking ability.

As someone who watched Brassard last night, I could say the same thing: How could the Rangers let him go for so little?

The guy was amazing on the PP with unbelievable seam passes and should have had at least 3 assists if guys like Ryan and Ceci could have finished. He also scored and was harder on the puck in a freaking exhibition game that Zibby was all of last season. Brassard won more puck battles in one game than Zibby did from the start of the year till Christmas.

I know Zibby always had potential, and maybe he will meet it in NY.

The Rangers traded for potential and Ottawa traded for an established player who gives 100%.

The Rangers may win this trade in the end, but it's hardly as one-sided as you make it out to be.

Edit: Just to add, this is a contract year for Zibby, so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he is dynamite. What would concern me is if he gets a long-term deal at a high dollar amount. What will his compete level be like then? Based on the past few years, I would be a worried.

your team used the 6th overall pick in 2011 to draft Zibinajed and also added a 2nd round pick to this deal.

yeah, you guys didn't trade much, very little

Yea the trade was supposed to go down much earlier. I think the Rangers wanted a pick in this past years draft. But that bonus caused it to delay. I think they pretty much agreed to it back in April.

The 2nd round pick was for money and the fact that the Sens waited until AFTER Brassard's bonus was paid out to make the deal.... everyone knows that by now.

It's not our GM's fault that we have a cheap ass for an owner.

Brassard was also a 6th overall pick. I get that Zibby is younger, but he has not done anything near what Brassard has done. We know exactly what we will get with Brassard. You have no idea what you'll get with Zibby. The guy was a ghost for most of the season last year...so much so that when our #1 center went down, our #3 center, little 5ft 7 JG Pageau skipped over him to take the #1 spot..

Zibby was given every opportunity in Ottawa: 1st/2nd line mins, 1st PP time for two years and he did nothing with it.

As I said before. He's not dumb. It's a contract year. He's going to be out there flying around for sure.

He's gotta secure his future.

I question his playmaking ability and hockey sense, but if he sticks to North/South, he'll probably be awesome for you guys.

It's after he signs a long term deal at 5M/yr that I would be worried. Based on how he's shown up to camp every year prior to this year, the Sens obviously were.

well, consider this, when Brassard was the exact Zibby's age he is now, he was coming off a 9 goal season.

Zibinajed's career is going to explode in NY. You'll have 3 years of Brassard, he'll be 32 then and he'll probably move on.

Really don't want to debate this, because I honestly hope both players work out for both teams. But if Zibanejad was a ghost last year, he scored 7 less points than Brass. Isn't that a good thing?

Brassard is from Ottawa. He's not going anywhere.

Ottawa is a budget team and they have to find guys that WANT to be here. Going local is the best way to do that.

The excitement in his voice when they interviewed him was enough for me. The guy said it's been his dream to play in Ottawa but never thought it possible.

He's going to be great for us.

I agree he is older, but like I said, Zibby is based on potential. He HAS to play a hardnosed game to be effective. He can't float around and rely on his playmaking ability and hockey sense. As long as he's willing to put in the work and get his nose dirty, he'll be great. I question if he has that drive and desire. Other than his first full season in Ottawa, when he was playing to establish himself as an NHL player, he hasn't shown it.

Maybe he'll come back to NY to play with his buddies Mats Zuccarello and Carl Hagelin

He had 1st line PP mins and played with Bobby Ryan and Mike Hoffman all year. He also had about 3 games where he had about 9 of those points or something ridiculous. He went long, long stretches without a point, or a measly 2nd assist.

At one point, they demoted him to the 4th line to try to get him going.

Most of the season Zibby was a product of his line mates and his ice time. He played with 2 of Ottawa's 3 most skilled wingers.

Did he have a wicked onetimer in Ottawa? Because he was launching them on the PP last night. 1 for a goal that was a (frank)ing laser beam.

Oh yeah.. he has an awesome shot.. the power is crazy.. it's his accuracy that isn't there.

He could hit the top corner, or shoot it over the glass. Every shot is an adventure.

It all comes down to the D IMO. I think we will be a top 5 team in goals scored this year.

Listen, I'm not trying to troll.. honestly..

Zibby was the whipping boy amongst my group of friends. We are all diehards and watch basically every game.

The reason is because we all knew his potential. I mean we aren't going to waste our time ripping into a poopty 4th liner like Chris Neil. He doesn't get enough ice time to make a difference.

The trade was probably a huge wake up call and I'm sure he's going to be good.

The only reason I responded in this thread is because someone was saying how brutal of a GM we have and how bad of a trade it was for the Sens after watching him for one game.

Yup. I was thinking probably more of the same from last year, but after the additions of Zibanejad, Vesey, Buchnevich, Pirri.. etc. I am pumped for this season. I think this years team will make last years team look like they were playing in glue.
