I think as long as Matthews, Marner, and Nylander make the team most will be happy.

Brown is waiver exempt and some bloggers would likely complain about losing Leivo (who I think would absolutely get claimed) but at this point Im good with whatever management does.

The real dark horse here for me in this camp is Nielsen... If I'm not mistaken, he has the same clause as Marner where he is back to the WHL or on the Leafs, not AHL eligible. He made a bit of a case for himself yesterday and had a really strong rookie tournament. He's already PPG in the WHL, so he may have outgrown it. We'll see how the rest of camp goes

EDIT: quoting is not working for me for whatever reason.

I hope he does.

I wouldn't mind Rychel, Komarov, Martin and Prust one on each line. Make some space for the skill guys to do their thing and keep the rats honest.

That's just hockey I like to watch though. Couple of flashy players with a more physical player alongside them

Some people around here think that doesn't work....even though last night Ottawa came out running all over the place until Rychel did his thing and Prust followed it up.

Whether it works or not....I happen to think it does....I like that style of hockey. Hate seeing our team get pushed around, especially the skilled guys.

From what I've seen so far I would take him over Hunwick, Marincin and Polak. The kid is going to be a beauty... ...I think.

As I said in the other thread...
Trouba stacks up very well against Morgan Reilly. One has been better offensively, the other defensively thus far in their careers. A very good comparable for Trouba is John Carlson. And everyone goes gaga over Hampus Lindholm. You may want to see how Lindholm and Trouba have stacked up against eachother since being in the NHL.

Is that Phil Kessel?
- senstroll

It might be Full Kessel, too light-skinned to be Notslim Kadri.

don't worry, we still have to see Martin and Polak play this year, and can you imagine if Prust somehow actually makes the team
- vermie22

c'mon... he's destined to be Clune's running mate on the Marlies....

Marlies will be smaller a bit this year then last... they'll need a couple of guys to keep an eye on the kids.

i've been really curious about him since he started putting up big numbers last year.

i'd prefer to see him in the ahl for a year; i think it might be rushing him this year.

After last night....I know small sample....but I think it's going to be tough to send Marner and Brown back. They both looked ready and really played well.

I like the energy of the young guys and would rather Rychel over a guy like Prust too.

Still think we should go with this mix of players in this sort of a line up

JVR, Kadri, Komarov
Nylander, Bozak, Brown
Rychel, Matthews, Marner
Martin, Laich, Michalek

I think the bolded line could work really well.

I'm pretty sure he has. I'm also pretty sure he's faced them constantly in shorthanded situations. You think his 22 minutes a night for three straight years that he was sheltered? Again, this is what his hold out is about, he's getting little opportunity to succeed offensively.

If you're comparing Trouba to Franson, that's a huge huge reach. Has Franson even played 22 minutes a night? or had over 3 minutes a game shorthanded? Also at 21 wasn't Franson still in the AHL?

You're probably right, he's young a year in the AHL won't hurt his development....but I am looking forward to seeing him.

We have to have one Parayko type in our system. One D man that works out better than expected....when is the last time that has happened for the Leafs?

Short handed minutes don' show on his plus minus.

completely agree... Nielsen has looked composed as well... when he makes a mistake he doesn't panic ...

if they could move one of Marincin or Hunwick....

I'm hoping he's got a shot at the Leafs...

I think Leivo makes it over Rychel, he's the better player.
