Entirely possible, but I find it hard to believe that he would be told to do that no matter what he's up against.

Giving up control when the puck is in deep is preferable to giving up control near the neutral zone... and then ending up on the other side of all the opposing players.

But that's just my opinion, could be something more to it.

Looks like giving away Gardiner creates too much of a hole on the left side.

Also, Gardiner is only 26 years old, he's still improving.

TBH, Montana and the people there are surprisingly nice and normal. Conservative as hell, but honest and friendly.

looked to me like he saw some of Marner's jaw dropping dangles, and wanted to get in on the action. Unfortunately he forgot he only has one move and everyone knows what it is, and he was never very good at it anyways.

The other option to chipping it into the corner is to pull up and maintain control and look to make a controlled pass. Something he rarely does.

I am a fan of Gardiner, think he is very good and dont see him as the tire fire like a lot of Leaf fans...but 1 for 1 you make the deal all day of course
