To TOR:Jacob Trouba, Andrew Copp, 2017 5th round pick
To WPG: Jake Gardiner, Kirby Reichel, Kasperi Kapanen, 2017 2nd round pick - TheUltimateJet
You can get a prescription for this kind of thinking you know. |

Tanner also thinks rundblad and shenn are top pairing defensemen so I wouldn't put too much stock into his opinion. Yea I don't see Gardiner leaving at his current price point. Babs doesn't seem to mind him and is putting him in positions to succeed. I could see 40+pt seasons for him and Reilly with the influx of scoring their rookies are going to bring.
Hes no juggernaut is his own end, but that's fine. As long as he can transition and eat up offensive zone starts.
Trouba may be the better defenseman in two years time. Or he may not be. Just as likely to go either way therefore not worth torontos time. - MarkStoned
Agreed. Just dosnt make sense to give up Gardiner plus 2 strong prospects or picks. I think the Jets will be dissipointed with what they get for him. They seem to think he's a top pairing defensmen already.
Btw..what's the update on Stone? Have him on my fantasy team |

Creates a hole on the left side.
Not sure if the leafs and jets are goid trading partners on this one. - Tumbleweed
Holes on the left side, right side, forwards and in goal. I don't think that's going to be a reason they don't make a trade. |

I don't think the Leafs would do this. I'm not even sure they would to do a Gardiner for Trouba swap straight up for a couple reasons. First, the cap it. Gardiner is locked in at just a tad over 4 million until 2019. That's a great deal if you talk the the analytics guys and still an OK deal for the 'eyeball' guys. Maybe if the Leafs were allowed to talk numbers with Trouba before hand (doubtful), it wouldn't be as bad as some are suggesting (6 mill +? . . no way) I am sure they would want to meet with him anyway to get a feel for who he is. Guys who demand trades (Personally, I love it, it causes movement sometimes and that's entertainment) are putting themselves ahead of the team and that doesn't fit with Lou's way historically. - foghornleghorn
This. Trouba is 1cm taller and the same weight. Gardiner is only 26, great contract, gets more points, and moves the puck better. I also say all this without being much of a Gardiner fan. If we are making a splash for a right handed top pairing D, Trouba is not the guy. |

Need to see what we have. Some holes will be filled by new faces, others, not so much.
Best to wait unless it's trading from a position of strength - wingers. |

Tough to give up Nurse. Could end up being better. But on the other side Trouba is a lot more proven.
I think I would work. - Santo_44
The thing that worries me is the expansion protection that goes alone with Nurse... So if that deal went down, the Oilers would be giving up Nurse, Davidson and a 2nd... Trouba would be a great addition though. It's a tough one. |

Mild concussion. Will be back in lineup for start of season. Hes almost symptom free, just precautionary. Although looking like he's going to have to carry Smith again because Clark's done. Such a shame. At least Smith can finish. |

Smith could be good on the waiver wire if you need a fill in. Assuming he's riding shotgun with stone. Hell get you some goals. Not much else. |

Peter, I assume you see Trouba play more often than most of us uneducated hockey fans in Toronto. Could Trouba play the speed and skill game Toronto is trying to build? While watching the World Cup he looked a step behind playing on that team, but that team was ridiculously quick and the Leafs probably can't attain that.
Pretty much my question is can his skating hold up to Rielly's game in, game out? |

Good to hear. I'm banking on him getting 60 points. Seems like a player who you can always bank on 60 points if healthy. |

Iv said this a few times , Gardiner is truly underrated. im not apposed to Trouba coming to Toronto but not at that cost. i dont even think i would even do a strait trade let alone a really promising prospect. I dont know if Trouba would fit it on Babs kind of team. |

I see 70+. He carried a one legged turris for 30 games last year. And brassard is a better passer than zibby was. 60 low end. He could flirt with point per game this year. Hes that damn good. |

The Oilers should have waited to trade Hall for Trouba. Im still shocked and incredibly amused they settles for Larsson. |

Unfortunately the Jets have lost a lot of leverage in trade since this news went public. You can bet they put the feelers out over the summer and probably didn't get anywhere near the return they want, and now it's come to this.
I don't think TO is a good trading partner for a few reasons. The big one being money: there tight to the cap (until the end of the year), and I don't see them paying any d-men more then Reilly. Period. I don't know what Trouba's demands are, but they would have to fall in line with Gardiner's current salary.
Personally I'm not a big fan of Jake the snake and wouldn't mind seeing a deal straight up, but I don't think the Jets do it. I'm content with letting the current group in Toronto play and see what we've got. This team is going to stink it up for at least another year or two regardless, so might as well. |

Winnipeg will either get what they want or take notes from how Yzerman handled the Drouin situation aka make the player sit out until he finally gives in which he ultimately will. |

This. Clearly I'm not the one on the other side of the phone, but I can't imagine Winnipeg not doing this deal. |
