I wouldn't trade Nylander at this point.
- BKups

I don't think there's any guarantee Marner is going to the better than Nylander. I would at least like to give them a full season in the NHL to see what we have before considering trading either one.

A (frank)ing bargain.

With Hanifin next to him on ELC.

Insane.

Now if only Carolina managed to get a (frank)ing team around those two huh?

How do you think Skinner will do this year? He had a good one last season but will it stick?

- Scabeh

He was easily the Canes best player after the trade deadline and the coaches have been raving about how he's performed in camp so far, saying he's been the best, most consistent guy out there.

He looked like he relished getting to be "the guy" once E.Staal was traded. Hopefully that continues. Adding Teravainen, Aho and Stempniak should help out the offense quite a bit compared to last year.

No more Chris Terry's or Brad Malone's on this squad.

I wouldn't want to either because he seems to be really dedicated to his strength and conditioning. We know he has a boatload of talent and if he can put those hands on a really solid frame, he could turn into a really special player alongside AM.

If you look at Nylander's numbers in most every season up till last year he was very comparable to Nick Backstrom even a little better. If he turns out anything like him he could be the top 2nd line center in the league playing behind Matthews.

I'm pretty sure Stempniak has to play on a new team every 4-6 months so he will only be able to help out for a little bit.

He was interviewed the other day... He and Jay McClement were rookies together in St. Louis. Now they're the only forwards on the team over the age of 30.

I agree that the odds of finding a similar player on the left side for the Jets is pretty slim, let alone finding one that's available.

The odds are he's traded for a package of prospects/picks.

- Scabeh

Don't the Leafs have a young-ish LHD under contract at a good number that they could be persuaded to give up if the Jets, you know, made it worth their while.

I don't even think we should talk about them at this point - just let those top picks play (Marner/Matthews/Nylander) and grow. We haven't had this kind of young talent in basically forever-eva.

You wouldn't have to sacrifice Nylander for Trouba. First reason is that would be dumb. Second is that Chevy wants an LD of similar age and talent. The only chip the Leafs have is Gardiner, and that offer can most likely be beaten.
- BetterCallSaul

this is correct.

Gardiner only plausible trade chip.... relative to what Winnipeg appears to need.

Tanner should be talking to Winnipeg on the Leafs behalf.... he's "somewhat high" on Gardiner.

He's probably down for a one-for-one, as he sees both as top pairing guys.

Why are people suggesting trading Nylander for Trouba?

Trouba may never become more than a 3rd pairing defender. If things go well, he may become a 2nd pairing guy.
There is a strong possibility he will never be first pairing material, yet people are already slotting him in with Rielly.
We also don't know for sure what $ he will want and he would obviously expect a roster spot of at least 2nd pairing before proving he deserves it.

Wasn't Nylander leading the AHL before his injury last year? The guy has serious skill and could become a great player for us, but lets trade him for Trouba before we even find out for sure what he can do in the NHL. That always works out so well for the Leafs.

Why would Edmonton trade $1 for $1 when they can trade $1 for .75c?
- senstroll

Ft Mac fire was going on... and they were distracted.

Only plausible explanation.... other than Chiarelli.

Someone ask Tanner to make a blog about Trouba for Gardiner. With Tanner making the proposal, Winnipeg will likely have to offer up a couple firsts to make it even.
