Smoking cessation has a higher success rate with stop smoking aides... statistically speaking. I tried many times cold turkey, I've cut down significantly (0 unless I'm drunk) since I got a douche vape.

Throw the smokes in the cupboard away and just say NO!

Congrats on the decision and good luck on quitting.

I smoked over a pack a day for 10 years and quit cold turkey 14 years ago.

One of the best decision I have EVER made!

Thanks

I falter here and there but 4 a week is better than half a pack a day all day.

Also, not saying it's for everybody, but if you feel a huge craving coming on, try eating some extremely spicy food.

The aftermath of the burn (not the one that comes 2 hours later, but the one that comes 5 minutes later) is a feeling of extreme relaxation and takes my mind off of whatever it was that made me crave it like crazy.

Endorphin rush.

Anyone catch the first two games of the TOR v NY series? How did the BJs look? Was it the usual as of late which is that they won but off the back of the opponents sloppy play or could they be coming out the other side of this disaster a bit?

I was only able to catch the back half of last nights game and damn it was weird to see Osuna have a bit of an off night like that.

About the bolded, how is giving someone a spot on the team that they earned "rushing" them?

Brown and Leivo are like 22-23 or so with multiple years of pro hockey at the AHL level. They aren't exactly fresh out of junior here.

- WingmanWillie

And Leivo has yet to earn a permanent spot.

I'm sure it helps get your mind off smoking, but I would advise NOT to drink listerine.

But Brown did. Last year. And he was passed over due to his waiver exemption

I just don't want to see the same happen this year, that's all.

If you aren't icing the best team possible based on merit, and are instead playing guys because of waiver status and eligibility, that's not rebuilding.

At this point in the rebuild, they should probably be enabling young talent so that the team can become good and stay good for long periods of time. Not biting the bullet on expiring deals just so you can grab a 3rd rounder at the trade deadline. They did that for the last 2-3 years (since Nylander was drafted). At some point you have to try to be good.

- WingmanWillie

I don't disagree that some of these kids need a spot. But if all of them make the team and we don't play some of these expiring contracts then our cupboards are bare. And we won't have the picks and prospects gathered from trades to re tool the Marlies and to keep the pipeline of young tAlent coming. its a debatable scenario. Even though most of the guys here don't think it's a debate and claim they know what's gonna happen. Especially when you guys say things like"probably should". Sounds convincing. And yes. We have done that the last 2-3 years. And look at the players we've collected because of it. And the progress we've made in building a team.

So last Friday at 230am I woke up wide awake with a voice inside me saying "You have to quit smoking now James".....this freaked me out even though I had been thinking about it for the last few months....so many reasons...but this voice that I couldn't recognize was so vivid and firm that I knew it was a sign not be ignored...and I knew that my wife was just waiting for my queue, and she was going to quit as well....We are both almost 50 years old.....I've been smoking cigarettes 1 to 2 packs per day for the last 33 years....and my wife has started menopause.....this is not going to be easy...I've quit a few times before and I remember the triggers that made me start back up again...so I spent Friday talking to my wife and prepared to quit by choice...no cessation pills/gum/patches/vapes just cold turkey by choice and there's a pack of smokes in the cupboard for when the mindgames start...and they did....I told her that I'm approaching this as a choice...I choose to not smoke...if I can't stand the mind(frank) anymore, grab a smoke out of the cupboard and light it up and think about my choice to not smoke and why....finish the smoke, put it out, don't beat myself up over it and carry on with my life choosing not to smoke...so Saturday rolled by and I had 2 smokes instead of 32 smokes...Sunday rolled by and I had 0 smokes...today so far, 0 smokes.....I haven't slept well for 2 straight nights, waking up at 200am and just laying still and calm until the alarm goes off at 530....I'm farting like crazy and a mild case of the poops...my face is tingling and and my eyes are glazed over...I feel like I'm in a delerium daze kind of...like I smoked a joint but I didn't....did I tell you the wife has started menopause??? yeah that's nice....so the days are filled with each of us apologizing to each other and saying we got this...

I got this.

- jimi james

Jesus christ, that's a lot of cigarettes per day.
Dont keep any cigarettes in the cupboard.....too much of a safety net and you'll always run for them.
Good luck and congrats....and keep yourself busy. Dont let any type of boredom set in....you'll crave the smoke even more.

But he earns a spot this year...and if Babs really wants him on, Im sure they'll figure out a way to get him on.

You really think the cupboards are going to be bare because we don't get a couple of 4ths from Michalek and Greening?

You act as if the Leafs have no draft picks in the coming years. They have plenty.

True

It's also hard to lump Brown and Leivo together when talking waiver eligibility vs merit. Mainly because Leivo's waiver status could very well play into him making the team over Brown, who is exempt.

At the end of the day, I do trust Babcock to do what's in the best interest of making this team as good as it can be, so come what may.

But yes, I too would prefer to have a kid on the team over Greening...but we cant just make the contracts disappear.

Brown should be on the team - our prospect pool is very deep with good talent which in-turn makes it tough to have all the prospects make the team, good problem to have.

When a player is placed on LTIR their cap hit still counts against the team. So Horton, Lupul, Robidas, and Cowen all still have active cap hits. Now the team is allowed to temporarily go over the cap while it has players on LTIR, but only to the point of that players cap hit. So they can spend an extra 5.25 mil to fill Lupul's roster spot, but they must clear enough space for Lupul to regain his roster spot once he's medically cleared to play. The shady thing the Leafs are doing is banking on the fact that not a single player mentioned earlier is playing another NHL game.

So effectively, the injured player's hit still counts, but the Leafs can spend ~16 mil over the cap this season.

- BetterCallSaul

Not sure if somebody already mentioned this but the Leafs have so much Cap Space that they can actually carry a few of these I.R. guys - probably Lupul and Rubadub - rather than put them on LTIR. They'll likely stick Horton on the LTIR and that's it. If as some reports suggest the league is allowing the Cowen contract to NOT count against the Cap then the Leafs are even better off.

Apparently the Leafs carried Rubadub all year on the Cap b/c they didn't need the cap room.
