Keeping an eye on whether Schmaltz continues to be tried at LW will be a big indicator on ideal plan for the Hawks.

I can see something like this if it works out:

Lundberg-Moose-Tootoo/Hartman


I just don't know if you can leave Toews with Schmaltz and Panik. He needs a little more help. He and Panarin could be deadly together and Kane can run a line by himself.

Yea , wolfie but its just the preseason . Anyone know if he is going to get a suspension ? Preseason hockey is a joke , first home game trying to win over the fans . Sure its a bit looney but from 65s point of view Im guessing thats what he was thinking .

It will be nice to see Forsling in that Hammer type off hand side...the difference is Forsling bring that jump into the attack zone, ala Karlsson.

...and in the defensive zone we will get to see how quickly he can transition out of his end, both with a carry and a quick hand pass.

Love Shaw, didn't want to lose him, thought the dollars Montreal paid him was quite ridiculous.

As much as I loved him on the Hawks, he isn't even close to be worth 4.4 mil.

That was a good move by Stan. Even better if Debrincat works out long term.

How it Works

For every year the player's salary exceeds his AAV, that amount of cap savings is "banked" against the team. The only way to "un-bank" this amount is for the player to play in the years where his salary drops below his cap hit. By the end of the deal, the entire banked amount will be exhausted. It's actually "net cap benefit" so in each of his last 3 years, 3.275m of that drops off, so it's 4.275m penalty each year after this season no matter when he retires until 2021.

I agree. Plus he's an older guy with international experience and extremely versatile (by all reports I've read).

He didn't even retaliate against the player that tripped him, though - he targeted a 19 year old prospect instead of a vet (Beagle) and then fought another prospect. That's like stupid on top of stupid lbr.

I will miss Shaw, but not that aspect of his game.

Tough loss for the team, but it is what it is. Just gotta hope Bowman learned from his mistakes.

There is a mitigating factor here:

He will be RFA after this season, not UFA.

A team would have to be willing to go more than $6MM, have the cap space to offer that amount, and have the draft picks (1st, 2nd, 3rd in 2018).

That might or might not limit the potential offers - I haven't looked at each possible suitor's situation.

I dont know all the possible suitors...

but I looked into it a few months ago and i know 1 team the does have the Space, the Picks, and the motive to go over the hawks offer in an offer sheet scenario.

They have 4.5M in space and Sharp/Hemsky (9.9M) coming off the books. And Oduya at 3.75. They have RFAs of their own to resign too, but with upwards of 18M to spend, they could offer Panarin 7.5M and not blink twice.

Not a fan of Stans 2015 Summer of Suck Tour? I think we see Shaw get a lot worse now that he is out of Q's grasp. He is playing for a team that will let him freewheel and hit people more so than worrying about positioning etc.

He can be replaced.
