I assumed as much - like I said it's wishful thinking. But with TVR it's something you'd have to consider due to the Hawks lack of LW experienced depth. Especially if you could lock him into a club friendly deal. Thoughts?
- dciz99

That is why I went with Pokka and Gus Pokka RD but less value then TVR and Gus expempt from EXP draft and more value then Mcneal.

My guess is that it would take TvR and McNeill to get Rieder.
- DarthKane

Given the current options at LW, I'd do that deal.

I see a lot of similarities in Louis and Vinnie, but I think Vinnie has more grit to his game and compared to Louis is a monster of a man. Anthony Louis is really really small, but he DOES HAVE very good skill. However, I have a kid on my PeeWee team almost as big as him. LOL. The kid has always seemed to "make the team" tough, so I'm not counting him out.

Neither are just speed guys, but sometimes it looks that way because they get physically outmatched. Even perfect puck protection technique with a good wide center of gravity with your skates may not overcome beast D-men patrolling NHL rinks.

Both of these guys can create space with their skating, but space is not easy to come by in the NHL, because everyone else is so good and mostly great skaters. Europe-sized ice and both these guys would be much more intriguing prospects, although I am optimistic about Hino making the team as a third liner to maybe give some scoring punch, because after the top two lines WHERE is our scoring coming from? I don't see much....so we need some playmakers with speed sprinkled into the bottom 6.

Watch the Penguins from last year...SPEED!!! No goon hockey, no fighting, just SPEEEEED. And they lifted the Cup. Can Vinnie be this year's Connor Sheary?

- kwolf68

Thanks for your perspective on Hinostroza and Louis. The analogy to Sheary makes sense in that I don't expect a diminutive speedster like Hinostroza to put up fantasy hockey numbers since Sheary likely won't either, even if playing with Crosby. Some would like to reference Gaudreau as a small guy who puts up elite stats, but he's a generational talent. If Hinostroza had that talent, he would have burst on the scene already. I don't expect Hinostroza to even be close to a Gaudreau and that's not a bad thing.

Similar to Anisimov, if Hinostroza or Louis or a power forward like Knott (referencing Wiz's scouting report) can do a lot of the small things that win hockey games like forechecking relentlessly, winning board battles, setting screens, using speed to create space, etc., then you will be a top contender for an open spot on the big club regardless of whether you put up 20-30 points a year or can put up 50-60.

Except for Desjardin, any / every forward could wind up in Rockford or similar. Probably the same with the Pens.

Not sure this is much of a test to show any of that these guys are Show-ready.

Maybe more an audition to se who gets invited to play with the "core" in the last pre-season game or two.

You are so right but 28 to me is the one most likely to get a long look and most likely the auditions will continue during the seasons start.

Rozsival looks painfully slow this year, worse than usual. He just doesnt have NHL legs anymore. Zero power to his stride. Short little choppy slow strides that just go nowhere

Even someone like Dahlstrom looks 10x better than Rozy out there

Roz should be out of hockey he did make a nice dive poke because he was so slow and covered up for a bad turnover from Forsling.

I think people are over estimating how much value McNeill has tbh. Also, isn't it doubtful the Yotes would want a defenseman back? They already have 8 that would have to pass through waivers: OEL, Goligoski, Michalek, Stone, Murphy, Schenn, Connauton, and Dalhbeck. And they have a decent number of prospects they may want to rotate up too. It's crowded over there.

Debrincat, Schmaltz, Forsling and Fortin look promising but the rest are unimpressive at this point. Not sure if any of them are ready to play on a contender, however.

I'd give Motte some credit - all 5 of his SAT have been scoring chances, including a few breakaways and a power move in traffic that was neat. He's settled a lot from the first game it appears and the coaches are rewarding him with ice time (he's only behind Rozsival-Kempny overall, 2nd behind Kempny for ev).

Kempny looks solid on both sides, Gus had some good passing in the OZ, Hinostroza is using his speed well, Kero is obviously the best defensive forward on the ice. I think it's interesting that Forsling has started a majority of his shifts outside the OZ but has one of the highest CF%.

Rosy is done. He has one wheel left on that shopping cart. He looks so slow against AHL forwards. It's almost Kimo bad.

They were extremely boring to watch. This past season was one of the worst I've seen since the Hurricanes won the year after the lockout. I see more passion and agression in my nephews flag football games.

Rosy is totally done. Gustafsson and TvR didn't look good either, hopefully they're just shaking off the rust.

Forsling was the best defenseman today, Kempny was good too.

Schmaltz seems to fade as the game goes on, that's a bit worrisome. Kero finished strong and Desi played well.

Motte had a couple of good chances - hope he's a better finisher than he showed.

Saw a lot of good speed amongst the youngsters but but much pressure on the goalie, tonite or Wednesday nite - a result of not much ice time together? I guess....

Don't think I saw anything from any of the forwards that says "I'm here - and I'm going to stay" (and no, not because they played against the SC champs - that was Pittsburgh's minor league team out there too) - but 4 more games to see....

Yea, it's really boring to watch a team win the Stanley Cup. You celebrate meathead hockey like it's worth a damn. What's worth a damn is winning, and the way you do that these days is with speed and skill. Not a bunch of lumbering slugs bashing their hands on the top of a plastic helmet. To say the Penguins (or any team that win the Cup) didn't have any passion or aggression is ridiculous. You don't get to lift the Cup WITHOUT the required amount of passion.

I am sure you're excited with Ryan Hartmann tonight. He had a fight. Whoopie!!! Other than that wonderful accomplishment he did absolutely nothing of substance that tells the Hawks he can be a productive hockey player on a Cup contending team. Now, had he made some plays, scored a goal, then we'd be talking, but he didn't do that...he "dropped the gloves"...mission NOT accomplished.

You're standing in a graveyard wishing to life a bunch of dead bodies of bad skating enforcers who can't play worth a poop and are no longer valuable to winning hockey. Not only does it not win, it's not longer what the NHL is trying to promote to future fans. The days of the NHL being on par with WWF and staged sports is over no matter how loudly you whine about guys that "lack passion".

My thoughts on the game:
I thought the goalies looked good.

-Motte markedly better than first game. This was a 180 from his first game. He can stay-for now.
-Other than a couple decent shifts in the third period, not sure what Lundberg brings. Another of the many 4th liners the Hawks have.
-Fortin may not arrive this year, but he’s gonna be a player one day for the Hawks
-Schmaltz was ok I guess. Nothing spectacular. I would like to see what he could do with higher end players. He seemed really confident at the hashmarks during the powerplay.

-Baun, Hartman, Knott among others were meh. Hartman looks like a fourth line banger. I’d rather have him there than Mashinter, Lundberg or Tutu to be honest. But I don’t see a top 9 forward yet.

-Forsling is impressive. Acquitted himself quite well. Kempny another good game.
-Dahlstrom brutal. He can be sent out. No need to have him play again
-Rosy is finished. Completely done.

- Vinnie was very good tonight. Though you saw his weakness when he was taken off the puck with the goalie pulled. Still, he’s a much better player than most of the guys that were on the ice. He and Motte’s line was the only line that generated any kind of consistent pressure.

-Hawks need to find someone who can give support scoring, if not on the first line, then someone capable on the third line. None of these guys are ready for first line duty at this time. But perhaps they can cobble together a capable third line, because right now the Hawks have serious issues at forward if someone doesn't step up and give some secondary scoring to the team...perhaps some combination of Kero/Kruger, Schmatlz, Motte, Vinnie, Fortin can give the Hawks some type of third line.

I'd also like to see THOSE players against legit NHL players.

Whenever anyone says this I lol a little ngl. I'm not making any predictions about how the Hawks will do this year, but I just don't think the Hawks will be sellers unless they're mathematically eliminated from the playoffs by the TDL. They could ultimately not make the playoffs or be a wildcard, but I don't see them being so far out that they're sellers. Kind of like the Bruins didn't sell the last couple of year - because if there is a chance, no matter how slim, big market teams are going to go for it because even a few playoffs games means money.

That's almost as funny as people calling last years team a "bubble team" and then trying to justify it.

I'll buy it, but other than Q riding the livin crap out of his vet's, whatever you seen these 1st 2 games from any of these young guys,Kool aid aside? Me, nothing!
If anything, Q should call a spade a spade, he already knows who is in and who's not. Q should line em all up, tell them one by one, the sooner the better ,even if it means just having 6 rookies left in camp, whether they got a shot this year or not and either release them or send them to Rockford, that Motte kid everyone is fantasizing over so far.............Drew LeBlanc or Matt Carey, take your pick. And Rosy is D ON E!
