Don't get me started on Stan's 'summer of suck' tour 2015...
meantime at least he moved Shaw for picks - let's hope Debrincat turns out to be a gem. And as mentioned Shaw already has a hearing tomorrow. Yikes.
Also agree with the majority here move on Panarin now before he lights it up again this season and you're looking at 7mil per...
At least we've got a game tonight boys and girls...sure its preseason, but it'll be nice to see some of the kids get some time in. - DK002
Or, play him w/o 88 and he'll be forced to sign for 5? |

So Panarin is an excellent hockey player. His lateral ability skating is incredible, he is very strong on his skates, he is an excellent passer and he has a tremendous release on his shot.
I don't think you see any kind of drop off in his game... |

I don't think he has peaked either. He turns 25 at the end of October. Does anyone think Kane reached his maximum potential by age 25? NO.
Panarin is just entering his prime years and he has 1 year of NHL hockey under his belt. His lateral skating is elite. One of the best in the NHL. Strength on his skates too given his size and weight. I don't buy that he looked lost and outmatched in the WC of Hockey. If that is the case the Hawks are franked bc a lot of our guys looked meh at best. Even Toews was meh until the last 3-4 games. |

anyone know if tonight's game (on nhl network) is blacked out on nhl.com? |

You mean Toews was meh in the pre-tournament games like several vets because they knew those didn't matter?
Toews has the best possession of any player in the tournament despite taking the heavy shutdown deployment. He's been fantastic during the games that counted for something (of which there have only been 5). None of the Hawks players looked meh during the tournament, including Panarin. |

I did. I'd wish they didn't care about the WC at all. I know Toews has been a beast. His corsi is absurd and he's dominated at the dot. I've seen Schmaltz for one period of one preseason game. I like him. Does not remind me of TT as far as being contact adverse. Seems to have decent size too. |

Not sure who's watching the game... but Hawks controlled the 1st vs. Pens.
Things to note:
"A"s belong to Campbell, Tootoo and Panik tonight
Tootoo fought vs. Sestito and handied himself well despite about a 5 inch / 30 lbs difference.
Schmaltz looks good on the left side
Forsling can really fire a puck and skates really well
Fortin has jets
Kempny looks confident and is a great skater
Motte's skating style is iffy to me and took an offenive zone penalty
Panik is playing aggressive and physical |

Ill also add that I liked Motte's effort on the back check. |

Schmaltz looks very calm with the puck. Seems to see things very well. Games slower to him than some of the other rookies playing at 115mph.

Scott Powers @ByScottPowers - "Schmaltz-Hinostroza-Panik line has been by far the Blackhawks' best line. Schmaltz is a team-best plus-10 Corsi."
Would be a perfect 3rd line... |

They are playing against prospects and AHL players though... I'm not going to get too excited just yet.
Hinostrosa hasn't impressed me too much.
Schmaltz-Kruger-Panik would be a more realistic line in think. |

I thought they were very VERY good tonight. Vinnie can play folks. Schmaltz was solid for his first game, though uninspiring in his own zone. Panik was very good. Fortin started good, but faded late. I didn't see anyone else on offense do much. This was also against almost no one who will be in the NHL this year. So not gonna carve the trophy yet.
Defense...Forsling good better than I projected this early, you can trade Pokka at any point, I am not impressed. Kempny was alright. The big guy was OK, but he's still slow, but he seemed to be more aggressive tonight.
Darling was very good.
Glad to see Soup back. |

Disappointed with Pokka, Kero, and Sved.
Pleased with Darling, Panik
Pleasantly surprised with Forsling, Fortin, and Johnson on the faceoffs
And the parking Nazi a'holes are still Richards. |

My biggest takeaway from tonight was Forsling. I know, I know, it's the first preseason game against mostly Wilkes-Barre/Scranton players, but he can play. He turned 20 this summer, but showed some great poise on the ice. It takes defenseman longer to develop in most cases, yet he looked as though he belonged. I understand he will head back to the great nation of Sweden for another season, but I'm okay with being excited about his potential. Who knows if Clendening will ever catch on somewhere and do something, but I was a fan of that trade then and even a bigger fan of it at this moment. |

Coyotes trading Rieder 'best for both parties,' says his agent

Whatcha think? A fit? - hocktock
Unlikely to happen, but you never know. It would also depend on what the Coyotes would want in return. Plus, in the near term plans for the Blackhawks, can they fit it two years at $2.5 per season? That's what he's asking for. |

But, he was offered 2.3 million.
Is this worth a trade request?
Only if you feel hurt by your teams lack of value of you, and feel the same will happen with ice time. |

Hard to say.
Two issues here:
Cap space
If they trade for him, they have to then consider protecting him for expansion or risk losing him right after coughing up assets to get him |

He might come here for less, eh? That's what i said before but can you talk to him? Don't know. Club says they're not trading him. I thought we had future considerations with az.
We'll see. |

Agreed. Liked Johnson's game. A younger, and I guess a "Dave Bolland lite" in my opinion. Hartman was falling all over the ice, but other than that, didn't have a bad outing. Not good but not bad. Kempny and Forsling impressed. Also think that Fortin needs some time in his junior team and the AHL. He has the potential to be a pretty effective player in a year or two. |

Hey 66, hope you are well, loved your last line there! I see not much has changed at the UC this early in the season.
Def agree with you on Forsling and Fortin. I was also pleased with Kempny's skating and puck-moving ability.
Watching the D, odd-men out at this point would appear to be: TVR, Pokka (no surprise there for me, I said a while ago his skating and mobility were subpar) and Sved. If Q really wants to re-tool the D, I think both Sved and TVR are on the outside looking in. As others have said, both may be part of a future trade.
BTW, Forsling has one helluva shot. |
