I'm all for using assets for a defencemen.... lindholm preferrably but they aren't going to play 2 lhd together that often. Babcock has always said he doesn't want it.

I also think getting a guy who can be put in right now let guys like dermott and loov to develop. If those guys end up being like parayko it never hurts to have too much talent and be able to trade a guy like shattenkirk when he gets too expensive (or close to it)

Wait and see if they can develop one. Could be Zaitsev or Carrick, could be Nielsen, Loov, or Dermott. They may need to acquire one later, but they have the luxury of time for now.

You don't but its a great problem to deal with afterwards if they do. You can't plan your franchise on what if these guys pan out. You have to get some guys that are closer and hope for further out home runs for cap purposes

Seems the could get away with 4/4 protection if they acquired a dman.

Lindholm is a legit future Norris trophy candidate whom I doubt Anaheim would ever seriously considering trading -- unless they received an absolutely ludicrous package they couldn't refuse for him. You've got to believe the only d-man that the Ducks are willing to part with at this point is Fowler.

Having said that, if there's any conceivable way the Leafs could pry Lindholm out of Anaheim without giving up a piece like Marner or Rielly (obviously Matthews is untouchable) they would do it in a second. Frankly, I'd package Nylander++ to make this happen.

The Ducks and Leafs do have a rich history of being trade partners... but let's be honest, it's not going to happen...

Thats fair. I'll be honest, I always forget about the expansion draft. Maybe they are holding back knowing someone will come loose closer to the draft.
