thats what i mean... the current leafs philosophy is you earn your playing time... it wont be given to you.
he wants to be top 4? then outplay the guys currently ahead of you like every other guy in the league has to do. - Dozzer
Isn't it a bit different in WPG though. Buff and Myers with big long term contracts. He isn't going to be playing more than them (and with someone other than Mark Stuart).
In Tor if he can't outplay those guys then he doesn't deserve to play and thats it. Leafs don't have long term commitments to those guys, there isn't a contract bias
who said the Leafs needed to trade Rielly, Nylander, Marner, Matthews except the trolls? - Symba007
I was just saying he isn't worth that thats all. Stating the obvious i guess? I believe the comment i was responding to was if they want it then move on, which i agreed with he's not ekblad. He's worth nylander or marner + obviously

To get you have to give. You would like to assume they will be better next year. Do you trade JVR next year if you think you are going to compete and you have a ton of cap space? I dont think so. I like the guy, and i'd like to keep him, but you need to start throwing your darts on D that are further along and have a chance to be good top 4 guys. - Shteven
fair enough... but lets look at what they leafs already have
rielly and gardiner are shoe ins, as is zaitsev... thats 3 of your top 4... and if carrick happens to pan out there's a good, young, top 4. the oldest being gardiner at 26.

i just want to see what JVR can do playing with some real talent at C for once over a full year... playing with bozak he was hitting 60P... give him some real talent who are also threats on the line then i see him being a 70P guy
he is also on a great contract... maybe next year at the deadline if the leafs arent threatening to make the post season themselves.
i think this year is more of a "lets see what we have" type year. then once they have a better idea of whats in their own system... then start shipping out guys for other assets. - Dozzer
My issue with keeping JVR has always been that I don't see him resigning with this team for fair value. If you can trade him now for a package that helps your team you should do it.
I know the Ducks would want more than JVR alone for the Lindholm kid, but that's the making of a deal that could be mutually beneficial. And the Ducks and Leafs are always trade buddies. Just an example, of course.

sometimes the best move is to be patient. - Dozzer
I guess it comes down to I'm not as sold on carrick. But to your point patience would tell us. Leafs have enough without JVR if need be. But i can see them looking at Wheeler/Laine/JVR being a good couple of wingers I would think they believe its playoffs or bust.
No one is talking about them trying to unload pavelec in this deal to. Think the leafs pick him up and put him the minors?

That's the best point for not trading him I think, let the kids show you what they have before you bring someone else in.

I agree. He's going to want big bucks. Look at what we said Trouba was worth. JVR Kapanen plus either mcdermott or carrick. That should get lindholm. He's worth more.

When did Dermott become macdermott, did MacDonalds get a hold of him?
I would gladly swap Gardiner for Trouba, any day of the week and twice on Sunday.

fair enough... and i wont pretend to know what this current leafs management will do... they could trade JVR for the entire roster from real madrid and still make it look like a good hockey move

Nobody should pretend to know what these cats are up to.
