I think Kapanen is definitely expendable... (add in)
and
Nylander could be used for a #2 dman (we have enough wingers)

Very sad news to hear about Jose Fernendez. The guy was a great ball player and if you read up on his life story he seems like a fantastic guy of the field. He will be missed. RIP |

Wow. Bobby Ryan just beat the poop out of Patrick Seiloff for hitting MacArthur from behind.
Ron Thugnutt @TomSENS 27m27 minutes ago
Ryan grabbed Sieloff and beat him up. Screamed “YOU (frank)ING IDIOT” after they got broken up.
Remember that MacA has suffered badly with concussion this past year - lumlums
Pretty poopty for MacArthur hopefully he is okay!

Wait and see if they can develop one. Could be Zaitsev or Carrick, could be Nielsen, Loov, or Dermott. They may need to acquire one later, but they have the luxury of time for now. |

It would suck!but I would trade Nylander for lindholm for sure ,lindholm is just what we need, especially with the teams speed that were building, you won't get a defenseman like that unless you tank!or get flukey lol |

Seems people think the Leafs are done with the drafting part of the rebuild. |

We're now on the cusp. Let's just trade away our prospects we spent 18 months acquiring before we even know what we have in them.
People just love a trade for a trade's sake |

not done but why draft so many forwards? why draft over agers? i obviously dont know what management is thinking but they are stock piling quicker developing forwards for the d assets they want to get. d takes longer. when u draft u might not see contribution for 3-5 years. |

This!..that's why I'm for trading for a young elite defenseman if not then ,they must draft and develop, so 3to5 years then!without another elite defenseman, 3to5 5 years is the time table |

I think the Leafs just draft the player they think projects to be the best NHLer, which is smart for a team in their position. They have some good forwards and seem to need defence, I agree. But like you said defence takes longer to develop, so we may have that top pairing defenceman already. You see guys like Keith, Parayko, Klingberg, Barrie, Subban, etc. Defence picked after the first round that took some time to get to the NHL, but made an impact when they got there. |

If managment believes this is the guy who can be Riellys partner in the first pairing then they will go hard after him. I value Marner/Nylander more than him so I wouldn't trade them. but the leafs have too many forward prospects so there is a starting point there |

I think the Nielsen kid looks like a quality NHL defenceman in the making. |

I agree. i'm not denying they may not already think they have some top 4 guys. I'm pretty sure they think dermott and loov are those guys. Maybe i value trouba more than they do.... Babcock wanted hanifin ahead of marner (we're supposed to believe) because he would be that big 20+ minute horse with offensive ability. Isn't that supposed to be trouba? |

Agreed. I think we all right off any defensmen we draft that's not in the 1st round of becoming a top pairing defensmen.
He has the tools. He just has to translate it. |

Like I said earlier, if we're spending assets to get a defenceman I would rather trade for Lindolm from Anaheim. I just don't know if Trouba could keep up with the speed this team is building up. |

I'm all for using assets for a defencemen.... lindholm preferrably but they aren't going to play 2 lhd together that often. Babcock has always said he doesn't want it.
I also think getting a guy who can be put in right now let guys like dermott and loov to develop. If those guys end up being like parayko it never hurts to have too much talent and be able to trade a guy like shattenkirk when he gets too expensive (or close to it) |
