He's better in the corners and in front of the net. He's stronger and has opposing players actually worried about getting hit.

They serve different roles and I think its a little asinine to argue over which player is "better".

Buuut will Nurse be able to handle being the only punishing defenseman on an NHL team for +5 years? He started at 20 and certainly got his share of licks last year.. Injuries may begin to accumulate..

- fry

So it is not a defendable claim, but you defend it.

Then follow it up with conjecture.

nurse and conditional 1st (on signing and lottery protected). fair... would likely compete with offers other teams will make... makes the oilers better now which is needed while players are in their elc's and second contracts.

Yes. He is. Hes a year and 4 months younger and has surpassed him in each of the past 3 years in offense and defense in a lesser role. Hes more physical and has more offense. Hes better.
- Iggysbff

Larsson played for a team that wouldn't know offense if it hit them in the face. If you look at his career averages there is possibly a 30 to 40 point per year player there.

Not getting into it all again. I've said many times Larsson is a decent player. Just not the guy you give up a Hall for. We needed a number one guy for Hall. We got a good #3.
- Iggysbff

A good #3 that played top pairing minutes again the toughest competition and did it well.

If Trouba is seriously asking for 6-7M I'd be very wary of giving up valuable assets to acquire a future problem.

You guys can argue about Trouba/Larsson all day but when you factor in the cap hits (assuming what was mentioned above) it is not even close.

If Trouba ends up signing for long term around 5M than everything I've said is moot.

Oil need to manage their cap in a smart way going forward and with Larsson and Klefbom's contracts they have set themselves up well for just that. The last thing they need is to (frank) all of that up by offering Trouba 6.7M or whatever he is apparently asking for.

I did really enjoy watching Trouba at the WCoH tho. He brings a good amount of intensity/physicality that is fun to watch. Seth Jones was kind of a dissapointment to me. I actually thought Ekblad, Gost, Rielly and Trouba looked the best on that NA team.

Well said. Cap is an important factor. As does losing free expansion protection in nurse. As does the addition of another guy we'd protect forcing us to leave Davidson available (Although as much as I love BD, if we're getting trouba I wouldn't hesitate much in doing that)

I'd assume that if chia is in fact trying to acquire JT, he'd probably be looking to move sekera to alleviate a few of those aforementioned issues. And he'd certainly be doing so at the TD if we weren't in the playoff hunt

I wouldn't be all that worried about it honestly. Unless he has an amazing year and outplays Sekera, I doubt he'll get enough consideration from the LV staff to justify taking him over the other Dmen that'll be available or a bigger cap hit like Pouliot that would also be left out for free. Worst comes to worst, Chia could work a deal with LV that has them not pick Davidson (give em a pick or something).

In the event that Davidson can keep up his impressive level of play from last year, I see don't see ample reason to not consider shopping Sekera, though I'd prefer to wait an extra year to maximize our contention potential.

Agreed on most of it.
but even if Davidson has a season akin to this past one and not far better, a young player that plays his style and can move up and down the lineup when needed is exactly the type of guy a probable Lower skilled expansion team would be looking for.
But yes, pouliot would also be desirable

But again, i don't hesitate much to leave him unprotected if we're acquiring JT

You must have a short term memory... what did you get for hall? Simple fact is the oilers will need to pay to acquire a player to fill a massive hole. The oilers aren't far away from the playoffs.

We aren't as desperate as we were prior to picking up Larsson and there is no way that we move Puljujarvi for Trouba.

Yes, because one deal sets the precedent for every future deal. Wanna know what hadn't happened in that deal? Larsson hadn't asked for a trade, was already signed to a VERY friendly, long term cap hit, and was the first Dman the Oilers had acquired. He filled the majority of that "massive hole" already; adding Trouba would be more like covering the remaining smaller holes and reinforcing the plating on the massive hole.
