i reckon im selfish then.

i am against gay bettman. this is his fake Olympics as we all know.

the product put forth in this tournament was fantastic. i love players playing their hart out for their county(unless you are team NA or Europe). this crap of a tournament is completely different than the olympics. the WCH has the feel of something that was haphazardly thrown together. teams with no countries. teams didnt know the rules, looking at you NA.

i just may be a little bitter cause the US sucked so bad. that and i also hate torteralla.

i def watched cause it is hockey and it is the best of the best. but the olympics are so much better.

The argument people use is that these competitions jeapordize the season by star players risking injury. Injury is part of the game. A handful of extra games here or there isn't going to make the odds of injury sky rocket. And it's pretty obvious how important it is to these players to represent their countries. In my mind, if you're one of the best in the world, you've earned the right to the highest level of competition, which is big stage international competition. Say what you want about it being worthless. The players obviously don't think so. OV's threatening retirement to play in the Olympics. Patric Kane cried on the bench after getting eliminated. Morgan Reilly basically came his pants after NA beat Sweeden. These players hold these competitions in very high regard.

very valid about the players. again... I don't think most people blame the players... but the league for creating the farce in the first place. you could argue that the players should be focusing on their primary teams but it is hard to fully blame them for a lot of reasons.

(frank)ing Whiny bunch in here. If you don't like the World Cup then don't watch. Pretend it's not on. For the rest of us that will take any type of hockey this time of year we'll keep watching and enjoying it. It's better than watching (frank)ing training camp scrimmages through an iPhone.

I'm not watching it. But as a pens fan I hate the nhl putting players at risk for it. So I vent. I hope the piss poor ratings and injuries amount to the league nixing it in the future. You maybe want to keep it. Always amazes me that people come on here and whine about other people whining. Its the circle of whining.

Mark stone got concussed in training camp and it sounds like Bonino just took a shot of the foot and left in serious pain. Injuries happen in hockey. World Cup or not.

yup... and Murray could have broken his thumb in camp as well... hockey is risky so why increase those risks with unnecessary superfluous play? It would be one thing if the thing was a whooping success and was bringing in fans worldwide to the nhl... but is been, TO THIS POINT, a failure. I just hope that the NHL realizes it and doesnt make the same mistake twice... but they will. (I am basing the success on tv ratings and the lack of non-media driven buzz... for all I know the thing is raking i the dough and revenues are going to go up, arizona and florida ar going to sell out more games, and nhl center ice packages are going like hotcakes... but I doubt it.)

Dont the players have a choice to play in the WC or not? If it were me, I would skip it. Not worth risking your career over a tournament, but if they want to play are allowed then its on them, its their choice.

Personally I dont care to watch hockey in September, the weather is too nice.
