The Canucks need two more top FIVE picks to get the rebuild back in order
- LeftCoaster

I hear Gudbrandson looks solid out there. He has even taken leadership roles with players like Hutton and JV.

JB turned MCCanns and a second into a third overall pick

And people were saying "Oh boy! We've got GREAT hockey... no preseason for WC players and playing meaningful games at 100% intensity will be awesome."

Yeah, great job NHL/PA, you tried to recapture the glory of the Canada Cup, forgetting that this ain't the late 80's-early 90's where the game was slow and the players small and not wearing more protective gear than a member of the SWAT team. Of course there's going to be injuries, and it's going to screw teams out of the gate, possibly even scuttle their seasons.

But hey, we had great hockey... 1 team clearly better than everyone else, one team sucking so bad they literally embarrassed themselves by how they poop the bed. One team that was incredibly talented and could have won it all... only to piss it away because they though they only needed a win in OT and their idiot coach never tried to get them to push for the win in regulation which they needed, great work on that Mclelland.

So yeah, I'm glad for everyone who's enjoying the WC, I haven't watched a game, or watched any highlights. I knew going in that this literally was the replacement for this years ASG and I haven't been proven wrong. The only difference between this and the ASG is that it's a tournament and there's actual hitting involved. The teams are still unbalanced, the draw and the format favored the home team who is going to win going away.

All because Gary wants to put the screws to the IIHF so that they'll pay the NHL's expenses to go to the Olympics. Great job NHL/PA, and by the way, as a concluding note... that trophy is the ugliest monstrosity that I've ever seen, it looks like a crystal trash bin or a vase for flowers, not a trophy for a supposed world calibre tournament.

Great post! I watched some to see how the Nux players are doing.

But you're right about this tournie in general.

Ya hopefully he turns out to be a good trade, not gonna get much offence from him but he brings those intangibles that the club really needed.

The saving-grace, for me, is he's only 24 years old. Because I think McCann has a good upside to him.

Kaptaan....cheering against Canada. That's so low
- CanuckDon

Cheering against Canada??

This is a phoney tournie with no nationalistic importance.

I said very clearly I'm cheering for Russia to become relevant again. Everyone knew the Russians weren't anything more than a snack. But I wanted for once to feel they could actually win.

I doubt anyone is close to the strength of Canada. I hope the Swedes can stop them, cuz of the canucks on the club but I doubt it.

I really hate that the club is stuck in "limbo" though….poop or get off the pot with the rebuild! If the team fails again after the 82 game schedule, it's time to do a stock rebuild.

I don't want to say negative things about JM because IT is way too early. I was never sold on him. In his own words at the draft " It is what it is" . Not a great first impression. I was never sold on him , I wish him well.

It is very possible that the rebuild you were hoping for , the Canucks may see as done already. It doesn't mean you will be happy with the results but they seem very excited to see how it turns out.

Worse case scenario you are right and they get top 5 picks for the next 3 years. Best case scenario we have a competitive team and can draft normally now and move a player or two in and out every year.

I don't think you will ever see a Canuck team just sit back and plan for top 5 picks for 3-5 years. This is not the Oilers.

Really looking forward to this Sweden vs Team Europe game. It will be fun to watch the Sedins playing with Erikkson and Team Europe is playing the unheralded underdog role perfectly.

I'm not sure how anyone could come to that conclusion? You have a #1 center who's 36 and the next guy in line is 21 with no other top six potentials at center. I don't think Linden is that stupid.

No top six left wingers in the pipeline, one top six center in Horvat….I'd say they have a lot of work left to do. And like Linden said publicly, this is gonna take some time, building through the draft.

They do have work to do and I am sure in four years when Hank retires , Bo or whomever they have will be ready.

Eriksson is a top 6 guy and they have him for 6 years. Boeser and JV should be ready and up to top 6 form in four years.

I am pretty sure that in four years they can find two top 6 players. If not they can rent them with the 14 mil cap space.

Like I said you may not like the answer but they seem to be ok with it.

Huge problem, there needs to be a sense of urgency moving forward. No plan in place.

Not from what Linden has said; he admitted theres a lot of fixing to be done and it's gonna take some time to do. I don't think he's satisfied at all, but he certainly knows building is gonna take some time.

Edit: I think Linden and Benning are satisfied with the progress they've made in the past two years, I just don't think they're under any illusions they're done.

Lindens exact words two days ago " we are very excited this year, we now have 14 players under the age of 26 on the roster".

This does not sound like panic to me.

Years before they said we need to get younger faster bigger stronger. I have not heard them say that once this year.

So….I'm sure he's happy with progress. If he thinks those six guys are gonna win them a Cup he's an idiot….which he's not!
