Gonna be blunt about this: you shouldn't be. There is a less than zero chance that that's going to happen. - eichiefs9
Isnt that like saying infiniti plus 1? Usually rebuilding teams with not many propspects have to trade players that teams wants. Unfortunately for them noone wants Girardi |

Hank has a NMC, he isn't going anywhere.
No one is taking Staals contract - mdw7413
You dont think Henrik would wave it to go to a cup team?
The Habs took Gomez' contract lest we forget... |

No cup team will have the cap to fit Hank.

I would literally bet everything I owned, everything my GF owned and every last penny and asset my parents own that he is not traded.
Maybe Staal, but nobody is taking that cyclops and his putrid contract. - eichiefs9
I hear Boston is looking for D. Staal for any one of Zboril, DeBrusk or Senyshyn. |

The Rangers are not nearly as barren in the prospect department as you think. They may not have any stand-out, blue chip prospects but they have a handful of decent guys in the pipeline and some young talent on the roster.
Not to mention that for awhile now they have been a premier destination for free agents and players requesting trades. They may not build through the draft like some other teams, but they'll be able to keep a reasonably steady flow of talent directed at their roster.
There is seriously not a chance in the world that they even consider asking him to waive his NMC. |

Boston got a D...
...right in their A, when Sweeney passed on Barzal and Connor to draft those three boneheads. |

by end of camp you have to be compliant before ltir, so if you're over right now and would be under after putting someone on ltir, you still have to be able to fit their cap hit in when camp breaks before you can put them on injured reserve. if we were 3 mil over with grabovski set to go on ltir, we'd still have to make room to fit 3 mil under the cap for a day before putting him on injured reserve. so while you can be over, you have to do some juggling for a day before the season starts. |

They definitely can attract UFA's.......but that hasn't "worked" since 94. Thats a long time ago to build through free agency. Decent talent doesnt bode well. The isles top 5 prospects are better than any Ranger prospects. |

I used that as an example. If Hank goes to a team that's over the cap in the summer with a player to go on ltir, they still have to make it fit UNDER the cap, prior to ltir.
long term injured reserve was designed to help a team that suffers an injury to a key player during the season, by allowing them temporary space to replace that player in trade or with a call up and not exceed the cap (so teams wouldn't have to play short handed), not to help overspending teams bury sh!t players during the summer |

I said that teams can trade mid season and make room......they can also then add players to LTIR. |

It worked pretty well when they went all the way to the Cup Final a few years ago. Or the ECF trip the year after. |
