he mocked the team for losing... there is no excusing it.

he's done with the national program... (frank)ing tool burned so many bridges with that tweet... absolutely classless kicking someone who is down.... management or otherwise.

100% classless.

any old timer would cross check his head clear off his shoulders and take the suspension... fat (frank) is lucky this isnt the 70s

Dude easy.

The guy was the top scorer for USA in the last olympics and just came off winning the Stanley cup. He is a great player and should not have been left off the team. He was not injured when the team was selected so that's not an excuse.

USA screwed up. I would've been pissed if I was kessel too. All of them going after kessel is just an excuse for there stupidity in who they chose for the team. Everyone knew they sucked right from the beginning.

I'm not sure at the moment... I'm pretty sure we voted but the last season's messages are all gone. I'll put up a new poll I think

And kessel wouldn't have changed it much. It was a funny tweet that was aimed at the management team. I can understand other players being upset about the tweet as it could have been taken in a way that threatened other players skill or usefulness.

he's a damn fool... cant wait til i see all the team USA guys looking to run him over this season... and he deserves it too.

I am jumping in here after a long time, so probably noone is even talking about this anyomore...wait, this is hockeybuzz and before hockey season there is nothing happening...it's fine...

I understand the whole credo that when you are part of a team or organization you shouldn't call them out. You support your team/management.

But Kessel is not part of the team. They didn't choose him even before he went for surgery (from my understanding). If Kessel is not part of the team, then why is it classless for him to call them out on their mistakes? Because their mistakes included his own addition to the team? So what. He is a hockey expert that is emotionally invested in team U.S.A's horrible performance that is very disappointed with everything they did in this tournament - and rightly so.

His comments were gentle for what they deserved and completely correct.

Players like Backes were upset with kessel's comments because he knew deep down he shouldn't be on the team and was one of the people Kessel was pointing towards. As for everyone else like Tortorrella and Lombardi, they are just happy to be able to get everyone enraged at Kessel or others because it misdirects the deserved disgust aimed at Team U.S.A. and all involved. Get mad at Kessel and forget about the idiotic choices of Lombardi and Tortorella! Brilliant!
As an outside observer, there is no reason whey Kessel shouldn't be able to criticize this team.

This

Pretty much the point I was trying get acrossed.

They snubbed kessel first, why would he feel any obligation to stand up for that team. One of the top scorers you could have as a American and they didn't have him. Loyalty is out the window at that point.

The tweet was funny... but unknown keyboard heroes do not have to play 82 games in the NHL this year. My advice would be for Phil to keep his head up.

He probably didn't expect it to get as much attention. I am sure that at least some of the 20 players (not to mention coaches etc..) will take a shot at him if the opportunity presents itself.

So good for the pens?

If the player takes a run a kessel because of the tweet that is sad and pathetic. And would just prove how big of losers they are and how dumb they are.

To those that are saying the tweet is classless, isn't it also classless to come back and whine about the tweet and make threats like "well remember"

Phil should have been there, and he had every right to question the decision.

Tortorella says the US played hard. "Just couldn’t score enough."

Who'd have thunk it?

It's amazing how a team overrun with <20 goal scorer can't score against elite talent.

Good for Kessel.

He gets made a joke of at the all star draft by his peers.

He gets run out of town in Toronto and called fat and joked about.

He wins a cup with a hell of a performance.

Then can't make a squad that is made up of inferior talents.

Screw it. Good on Phil. He called out the team selection which is a shot at gm/coach. Not the players. Guy over comes cancer, is a league leader in scoring over the past half dozen years, wins a cup and never gets any respect.

According to Ek the young stars didn't know they had to win in regulation to have a realistic chance of advancing. Any truth to that, anybody know?
- shack67

That was the coach's job to let them know they had to win in regulation anyway. Blame the coach!

Lupul - A little heartfelt message via social media about how he's still injured and unable to start training camp.

Later.

Kadri - a reply to a question about Lupul - "oh yes, he's ready to go...ready for the season"

Too funny.

Exactly.

funny tweet....nothing more. Also, he's recovering from surgery, couldnt even play in the pens golf tourny, I doubt he could have played in the tourney.

Don't (frank) with Phil. John Scott's ankles learned that lesson the hard way.

Now imagine, Taylor Hall sent out the same tweet after team Canada got eliminated early because they couldnt score.

BOOM!!

But really, its a nothing tweet, it was funny...thats all.

So funny tha this keeps coming up, has jotzi g to do with it. He didn't have surgery until after the team was named. He wasn't asked. There were players named in the middle of the playoffs. The injury is irrelevant.

The injury wasn't a secret.
Im sure Team USA knew about it...why take a chance.

Besides, Kessel wouldn't have saved Team USA. So it makes no difference.

Meh, hall didn't just win the cup finishing near the top of playoff scoring and didn't play in last olympics and lead his team in scoring.

Canada didn't also leave off half the player on the team to take goons.
