According to Ek the young stars didn't know they had to win in regulation to have a realistic chance of advancing. Any truth to that, anybody know?

i dont think Ek meant they didnt know so much as they didnt put the desperation into their game that a team in that situation should have.

What if the plan is to play the young guys and get them experience?
- burn

That will be part of the plan, but I don't expect more than a couple last year's marlies to be on the team.

Greening, Laich, Michalek, Hunwick, Polak Martin and a least one of Marincin, Corrado. will all be taking up spots. Nylander and Matthews are shoe-ins. There is simply not much room left.

there is no way they honestly believed that.

the coaching staff would have ensured they knew.

Or they knew that losing in regulation meant they were out.

what i would like to see as an opening day lineup (keep in mind I dont expect the leafs to be competitive his year and I am trying to emphasize deadline sell offs)

JVR Kadri Komarov
Michalek Matthews Nylander
Greening Bozak Marner
Martin Laich Leivo

Rielly Zaitsev
Gardiner Marincin
Hunwick Polak

Andersen

- Dozzer

pretty logical... but my "spidey" sense tells me that Uncle Lou will pull off at least one trade and I'm guessing two during or near the end of camp... I'm not expecting a deal like the Grabner deal last year (meanin g 5 for 1) BUT I wouldn't be suprised to three guys currently in the mix heading off for a single return.

I believe the most likely trading partner teams will be Winnipeg, Vancouver, Anaheim and the Rangers.

I'm not going to make a trade predictions because I get attacked when I make those... and I quite frankly don't care that much now since the little turd in net is gone.

yup.. to start anyways... however if they play like poop and dont produce they'll be gone in a heartbeat

the only reason they are on the roster is to turn them into assets at the deadline

It's already been reported .

They said they wouldn't have celly'd as much at the end if they knew that they weren't in .

I would guess that Michalek(less likely due to salary), Hunwick and Corrado are part of trades.

I think it will be a deadline sell-off again unless they are playing much better than anyone expects.

If it is a sell off, I wonder how deep they go do they look to move JVR? Bozak?. I also wonder if this is the last year we can expect them to have a significant number of guys they hope to sell at the deadline.

A similar thing happened to the Penguins on the last day of the season. Can't remember the year or the coach but the players had to tell the coach late in the game that they had to win to make the playoffs. Early 80's I think, never heard of that coach again.

I was extremely excited when I got to the locker room, when I got done with [postgame] media. But the guys were kinda down. I didn’t know. I thought we were in if we won,” said Gaudreau.

“When I scored, I thought we were in,” said MacKinnon.

“Maybe we shouldn’t have celly’d that hard."

Like I said, they th out they were in, coaches knew but they didnt tell them... Weigh the pros and cons of telling them and putting too much pressure on them.

Unbelievable. They should have left it all out there the last few minutes. Glad we have Babs and not MacLellan.
