Yeah, I think that was more the reason for CBJ making that deal - WingmanWillie
It's even better for CBJ now...now they can put him on LTIR and not have to pay him and bring up a guy who can actually help them |

I haven't seen Carrick play in the NHL enough to know...but Polak seems to be playing a lot of hockey for a guy some think shouldn't be in the NHL. - Garnie
This is true. He's definitely an adequate NHL defenseman. I don't know how I feel about him in the top 4 though |

So if Lupul starts IR, and it sounds like he may be pushed to LTIR, or even possibly retire, who knows with the boys these days, that would give the Leafs, what, 13.5m in cap space when you account for Robidas and Horton. Plus the additional roster spot would be nice as well. A lot could be had for that kind of cap space. |

But at least DC can be covered by disability...Horton didnt have insurance. - Garnie
True. At the time of the trade though Clarkson was a roster player. Got injured playing in his first few games. |

3rd pair for TO or any team pretty much....he's not a top 4....good guy to have pucks hitting on the PK too. |

Plus guys like Laich, Michalek, Greening all expire after this season too.
Finally clawing their way out of cap hell |

Won't retire... why would he when he still gets paid for 2 more seasons in the press box or sitting on a beach somewhere?

Oh... I'm not arguing that the Jackets are not better off in this scenario. I think they are making out like bandits! |

I saw the opposite at the tournament. I saw a guy with more vision and creativity than his linemates. He is a player that thinks the game a few moves ahead and I saw numerous times when he would make a pass to a player and then be in position and expecting the return pass that wouldn't come because his linemates couldn't read the play that quick.
The chemistry he has with Dvorak was insane, as Dvorak was a guy that was able to make those plays with Marner all night long. My feelings are that Marner should be on Matthews wing instead of Nylander. From watching Matthews in these WCH games, I feel they would complement each other very well. This also allows Nylander to eventually be the 2C and be the centerpiece of his own line. - vermie22
2c, The Leafs already have a very good 2c and no i'm not talking about Bozak.... |

With Lupul being dead, I imagine that means Nylander is guaranteed a roster spot. |

I know, I am a big Kadri fan. Just see him being surpassed in the centre depth over the next 2-3 seasons. Bozak I assume will be gone in that time. |

2 things... hunwick had a negative impact on rielly's numbers so i dou bt those two are paired up... and Polak wasnt signed to be a 7th.. he will be bottom pairing without a doubt and flipped again at the deadline
I wouldnt be surprised to see this:
Zaitsev Rielly
Gardiner Carrick
Hunwick Polak
Marincin and Corrado as the extras - Dozzer
Same here and Babs is already impressed Zaitsev is on the top line for Russia, understands it speaks volumes about the kids level of play and defensive responsibility. |

Could see Buston Matthews being the #1C by 20 games in...Kadri #2 and Bozak #3 until he's gone ( 5v5 ice time )

we need more classlessness from canadians, I ignore all interviews and social media from canadian players because it the same canned boring garbage all the time. I personally don't mind a guy speaking his mind. I also believe it was more of a statement that he wished he could be there trying to help USA win. - vermie22
Yeah but as a player puts a media target on your back which most of them would rather avoid, few exceptions out there of course. |

Some other interesting takeaways from #Leafs training camp roster: Connor Brown listed at 190 Ibs, Marner at 6-0, 170.

Josh Bailey's fool-proof 5-point F.L.O.A.T. plan:
Follow, don't lead
Lead by following
Offensive production is overrated
Always pass, even when you have a wide open net
Teammates are there to pick up the slack for you, take it easy |
