LTIR has some cap consequences into next year. Horton will go to LTIR but I'd expect Robidas and Lupul to ride the year out on the I.R. - Leafs have room to keep their salaries this year.
It does mean that the pipedream of losing Lupul in the expansion draft is over. And if he's injured all year they probably can't buy him out next June.

I think the flexibility of having so many guys available for LTIR comes in at the TDL. They can move guys on to LTIR then to create space for incoming bad expiring contracts.
