Trouba has requested a trade and won't attend the Jets' training camp.

I know he's not coming to Chicago, but it will still be interesting to see how that situation plays out.

Edmonton will be doing everything they can to get their hands on this guy! Not sure the Jets will trade in conference, but they have the horses to deal.

Line of the night... off the top of the broadcast of the CAN/RUS game Jum Hughson said, "Russia has struggled with faceoffs, but they have Anisimov out there and he's been their best guy at the dot".

They must really be hurting.

Eli - any thoughts on Spencer Abbott with his time briefly with Rockford a couple years ago. He lit it up in that stint and then heading the the SEL in '15-'16, where he had 35 pts in 42 games (good for 22nd overall in scoring).

He scored 2 goals today in the scrimmage and I know he's probably nothing more than an AHL player (being only 5'9) but he's 27 years old and is a natural LW.

I found it interested that HF below compared his style and referenced the competition of Motte to his profile.

Sounds like he's got a gritty side to him.

(Thoughts from my couch on a Saturday night)

From Hockey's Future:

Talent Analysis

Abbott is a highly-skilled forward with great vision. He is known for his playmaking ability and technical skills but his lack of size and bulk present a challenge at the highest level. He is a huge asset on the powerplay and isn’t afraid of going into the dirty areas.
Future

Abbott played some of his best hockey for Chicago AHL affiliate Rockford at the end of the 2015-16 season, earning a lucrative contact from Frolunda in Sweden. Now 27, he plays a skill and grit game despite his lack of size and gets the most of his ability. With similar younger players such as Tyler Motte and Anthony Louis coming up through the Chicago pipeline he may not have another opportunity with the Blackhawks. Abbott could do worse than finishing out his career in Europe but would be of interest to organization in need of scoring and willing to give him a chance.

Here is something interesting. The second leading scorer in the KHL this season is our one time draft pick Maxim Shalunov. He has got 9 goals and 6 assist in 12 games and is only 23. Maybe Stan' Russian scout is taking another look at him....maybe he is the rough diamond we are looking for on the 1st or second line. I honk he is 6' 3"" tall.

He used to be one of JJ's favorite little secrets. Would be interesting if we still retain his rights...

DK. Interesting the pickle that Chevy finds himself in. He took Byfuglien, Ladd, Dano, Frolik from us in Stans salary cap sell off, so I do not feel sorry for him in the least bit.

He is known to be extremely cautious. I expect Trouba to sit for a long time.

Stan will do his due diligence and call but I would not offer much more than Pokka, Debrincat and a draft pick.

Trouba had a tough season last year, but I believe the potential is there. But not enough to risk and overpayment. I'd pay what you suggested, nothing more.

DK good point about overpayment. We don't "have to have him". Snow played the Hamonic situation perfectly. He did not have to trade him. Chevy does not have to trade Trouba. Heck he might be wise to hold that asset all the way to the 2017 draft and auction him off there. That's when horse trading is at a premium.

Doesn't sound like he's going to be ready by October 12th.

Some GM will overpay for Trouba, my guess Edmonton, Anaheim or Buffalo. I could see the Canucks having an outside chance too.

I would not give up two of our better prospects and a pick for Trouba. All this talk about the farm system being worse. Why in the world would we say "Okay lets trade away our forward with the most upside and scoring ability and one of our best D prospects and a draft pick, and in return we will get a Good D man which is just happens to be the only position we are strong in going into the season."
We have a top 4 that is very solid to say the least and with Kemp and TVR as your bottom pairing that could end up being one of the best D groups in the league. Kempney looked good in the world cup considering the talent he is up against. He will never have to play against players of that level consistently with the hawks.

Trading for Trouba and paying anything other than getting a complete steal would be just plain stupid to me. We have defense right now. Why gut our prospect pool even worse to add to a position of strength?

With Pokka and Debrincat there is no guarantee they make the NHL while Trouba is an NHL established defenseman. That's a reason why you would entertain making the deal.

I don't see the deal happening anyway, for several reasons and one being the expansion draft. The Hawks would want to protect Trouba and they would have to take the 8 skater approach to their protected list. That would mean Kruger would be exposed and I doubt that happens.

Actually there was a story a bit ago that his wrist was injured a good chunk of last year and he had surgery and it was feeling much better.

Can't remember details, don't feel like looking it up, but maybe injury hurt his numbers at the dot.

Remember seeing him in a Jr. game once and thought maybe the hawks had something.

Took some bad penalties, but they were for over aggressive hitting. Figured they could curtail that.

How long do you own a guys rights after you draft him?

yeah, this is more related to wanting to play more minutes situations on the RIGHT not LEFT side, than just being over-paid,

EVEN if the Hawks offered their first rounder TvR, Pokka, and Rosy, Trouba wouldn't be a happy hawk as the right side thrid pairing.
From the Hawk management perspective, he allows you to trade off one of your big three down the road (NOT now) and actually have a really fine up n comer to develop for the next decade....

Chevy's gonna have to think hard and bite, because I don't think he wants a forward in return, so even though you will read about the Oilers and others salivating, there is a bigger chance he goes to a team whose GM he is familiar with and who has a defenseman he IS willing to discard. (Roadmap: Marc Bergevin and Nathan Beaulieu)

If I am Chevy, maybe I start looking for a BIG multi-player trade that yields a facelift all around....

I remember the same Russian prospect Shalunov shooting the puck from the red line at the opposing Canadien goaltender in the Subway Super series and putting it high in the stands for a delay of game penalty!

I guess he has perfected his shot since...

Last night the there was plenty of Ivan Telegin love in the Russia-Canada game commentary...
The NHL Thrasher 4th rd draft pick is probably getting paid well in Russia after his unsuccessful first contract with the Jets.
He was part of the 2009 Draft class (Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin, Ryan OReilly, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Vladimir Tarasenko , Charlie Coyle,Jaden Schwartz, Justin Faulk , Jeff Skinner, Ryan Johansen, Cam Fowler, Nick Bjugstad, Nino Niederreiter, Mikael Granlund, Alex Petrovic, Teemu Puikkinen, Ryan Spooner, Riley Sheahan, Austin  Watson , Stephen Johns etc.)

I just pulled my 2009 mock and I had him selected 49th overall (Ahead of Kevin Hayes, and Tom Kuehnhackl )

It is nice to go back and look at what you think:

Los Angeles Kings
No. 49 - Ivan Telegin - 6-foot-0.5, 185, LhC-RW, Saginaw (OHL)
Big physical winger who has begin to fill out to a size much more suitable to his non- typical Russian play style. He will probably end up as a power winger and not centre where he has seen much duty, unless it is in a role as a physical checking line centre. He makes up with power and push for not having the high skill levels attributed to Russian prospects, although he does have good skills, not superb ones. He is a three zone dedicated player, powerful battling in both the attack zone and defensive zone, due to his strong balanced skating. Doesn't score with dazzling hands. It is that he is strong in the box and disrupts and scores goals there when parked in front of the net.

Last night, I thought Artemi Panarin showed his natural watermark in All-Star play. I loved that the Russian team coaching staff were more than willing to use him as a PP pointman. And I truly love the kid, it thrills me he is such a find, and if so seamlessly with Kaner.

But in general you saw Panarin lose some shine when surrounded by really excellent opposition;he was in many ways neutralized.

I know someone will start barking and make a "Well Patrick Kane was pretty much neutralized too..."
But I think Panarin, well, showed he is what he is. (With respect to the late Dennis Green.)
So it's not gonna be giant money for Panarin...that is reserved to the true elite players.
