Well Zaitsev is also in that category as well as some other Russian players, but I agree Matthews has looked awesome so far, very promising. I too have judge Eichel based on these tournament games which I need to remind myself is only a few games. MiB said he was going to be doing a comparison between the two this upcoming season which should make for some interesting conversations.

Lets face it Eichel had a great rookie season points wise last year, he will be a good player.

He will be better than good - he is the best player on Buffalo now. He will be great - no dispute, Matthews - per his scoring with the US national team and college is simply superior to Eichel.

You guys know that all this Eichel vs Matthews talk doesn't make any sense.

Different draft year and Matthews is a #1 pick and Eichel is a #2.

The comparison that makes sense is McDavid vs Matthews.

So for the real comparison of McDavid vs Matthews, both #1 picks, both #1Cs, one Canadian on from U.S., it's a better conversation so I will start it....

We haven't seen Matthews in the NHL yet but from watching his play in the World Cup and before....MY OPINION....Matthews isn't too far behind McDavid and might not stay there long.

The biggest difference in their game, to me, is flashiness. McDavid is a little flashier and faster before being calculating and methodical. Matthews is a lot more calculating and methodical first, reading the ice a lot, and then fast and flashy.

I think Matthews reads the ice better, will be a better set up man and that is the thing that could end up making him the better player. Both are going to score a lot but when I think assists? McDavid is going to get assists in a different way...not by setting up plays but by missing goals and his line mates getting the rebounds or being in the right open space when he loses the puck. Matthews will be the better set up man.

(And one concern I have for McDavid is injuries because he goes flat out all the time...not a bad thing but look what happened last year.)
