30 year old Read seems like he would work best on a 4th line that is about containment, rather than a secondary scoring line.
Schenn-Giroux-Simmonds
Raffl-Couturier-Voracek
Laughton-Cousins-Weise
Read-Gordon-Bellemare
Lyubimov is the wildcard. - Feanor
That lineup is going to struggle mightily to score goals. Voracek has to have a huge bounce back year, and they will need the same production from Ghost. Disappointing not to be able to add a legit goal scorer, but there wasn't money to sign a UFA. |

Defensive, yes. Physical, no. |

It seems like Jake's really feeling it at the WCOH, hopefully it carries over. |

Morin has a very heavy shot.
http://www.broadstreethoc...t-and-then-drool-about-it - Feanor
As a pro defenseman (who also is a giant), I should hope he has a heavy slap shot lol. But every d man at these levels has a big slap shot. I could find you Nick Schultz slap shot beauties too. So much of being a plus shooter at this level is 1) offensive, shooting mindset.....2) quick release.....3) the ability to weave your shot through traffic. I'm not holding my breath on Morin scoring too many goals with his. |

Why do people just assume that Morin is more or less a goon simply because he is big and plays a physical style? The dude is never going to be Paul Coffey or Chris Pronger, but he has good wheels, a decent shot, can move the puck, and has great closing speed.
I mean, he's the next Flyers' era Mike Rathje. |

Braydon Coburn, which is what I'm thinking Morin could be comparable to, had one of the worst slap shots I've ever seen. It wasn't weak, his wind-up tool 6-8 weeks, and he seemed to aim for shin pads. |

Not that I think he's the exact same player, but when I think what Morin could provide Gudas comes to mind: the physical tools to resist pressure combined with enough skill to make good passes and keep the play moving. - BulliesPhan87
I'm thinking his potential is much higher than a Gudas level player. I'm thinking more like Chara with less of an offensive game as a high upside. |

The one who could be a top-4 NHL defenseman and provide quality minutes at even strength and the PK, or the bottom-pair NHL defenseman who takes bad penalties and has no offense? |

I guess you didn't read the part where I stated he skates well and can move the puck for a big guy. You're right though, I've pigeon holed him - aantny88
I read it. Your emphasis was most definitely on the taking penalties aspect of his game.

I'd be very fine with that. If he can even just be a stabilizing partner to one of the more offensively minded blueliners we've got coming up, I'll be satisfied. That's just one less defenseman we have to go find. |

It's blatant classism and ageism brahs, the NHL needs to get its poop together. |

You mean the one that Feanor posted a page ago?
Also, Morin's fights are fun to watch, definitely more than him making good defensive plays and breakout passes through the neutral zone. |

Can you? Cause I've already found two from Morin and I'm not seeing any Schultz beauties yet...

The bottom line is, saying he doesn't have much of a shot given his size, is inaccurate. |

That lineup legitimately has 6 forwards capable of scoring 20 or more goals. Del Zotto, Gostisbehere, and Streit can all provide offense from the back end. |

Im just hoping Morin becomes a consistent, nasty, physical player who wont hurt us in the offensive end. IE make a good first pass, get some shots on net.
I think defensively he is going to be a stud. - MBFlyerfan
Agree 100%. I think he has potential to be a similar player to Derian Hatcher. Not the Hatcher who played here on 2 shot knees but the top pair shut down guy that played in Dallas.
You can ALWAYS use a nasty, mean, huge guy with good wheels and decent puck skills.

he isnt 6'7" so he surely cant play as much defense and physics as Morin can |
