Good roster, not-so-good lines.
Kessel Pavelski Kane
Pacioretty Johnson Wheeler
JVR Stastny Okposo
Oshie Kesler Backes
Stepan
McDonaugh Byfuglien
Leddy Carlson
Yandle Shattenkirk
Faulk
Schneider
Bishop
Quick
is what I would have gone with. - eichiefs9
Solid looking lineup. Either or would have kept the game against the CAnadians somewhat respectable. After the 2nd period I was done. And I am a hardcore hockey fan. Looking forward to see if the young guns, Sweden or Russia can keep me intrigued for the whole game. |

The fact that Schneider wasn't even dressed is an overlooked comedy to me. Quick isn't the same as 4-5 years ago. Frankly, the two goalies that should have been dressed were Schneider and Bishop. You could make legitimate arguments for both of them to start every game. |

I was serious when I said earlier that USA management is still stuck in 2010. Just tinkering the roster from back then in an effort to finally beat Canada.
They need some fresh blood in that mgmt group |

Oh they definitely are. USA Hockey as an organization has made leaps and bounds in terms of the quality of product they're putting out, but as long as they put their guys in the hands of blowhard morons like Torts and Burke then they're never going to win a damn thing. I didn't give a damn about this tournament, but would have been incredibly embarrassed had that been an Olympic team.
The only thing that I will say in USA Hockey's defense is that the NA team really took away some talented young players that would (or well... should) have had an impact in a pretty big way. Losing out on Gaudreau, Eichel, and Matthews definitely lowered the bar, in terms of the skill level of available players.
Still, that's not enough of an excuse to not lay blame on whatever morons constructed that team. Not having Okposo and Johnson instead of guys like Dubinsky, Backes, and (the worst of all) Abdelkader is atrocious. Faulk, Shattenkirk, and/or Leddy would have been upgrades over turds like J. Johnson and Matt Niskanen.
It was just a joke all around. I hope they can appreciate how badly they embarrassed themselves. If anything, this should serve as a clear-cut example of how useless "grit" and "toughness" are in the grand scheme of things. Hopefully they use this as motivation to never ice such a putrid team in any competition ever again. |

Stanley Cup winning players. Not total league players. I'd be curious to know the percentage of Canadian players on the SCF winning teams since 1993, the last time a Canadian team won the Cup. |

I don't understand all the bitterness about the USA inferiority to Canada in hockey. I mean, face the facts: It is THEIR sport. Nothing to be ashamed of in losing to them. The USA is really good at hockey. Canada is better. Deal with it. We can't be the best at EVERYTHING. If there were baseball, football, or basketball tournaments, we would probably win. When it comes to hockey, Canada is simply superior. Take your hat off to them, congratulate them, and move on and get ready for a great NHL season, where players from all countries come together and make up your own particular favorite team in the city of your choice. |

I think there's a lot more parity than you realize though, particularly in these kinds of tournaments.
With the right personnel (not just talking about the kids, mind you), the margin of error in this already tight format is razor thin, so I think it's up for grabs for any of the teams.
This is probably a good thing to happen to USA Hockey though: could use a purge, a new way of thinking, from top to bottom; give some of the younger coaches a chance. |

Everyone knew as soon as torts was picked, this team would lose. Not just lose but be embarrassed. He is an out dated coach, a piece of crap as a person, and nobody respects him. I hope team USA learns from this and decides to be progressive in their next team, not regressive. - cornnation

I'm pretty ambivalent on the Kessel is/isn't a douche discussion, but if healthy he belonged on that roster over about 80% of the guys that were on it. |
