Umm ah Richards for Simmonds and Schenn, Carter for Jake, Coots, etc. How'd they work out for us? - bsw31usa
So you want to live in the past? Those trades were made while Carter and Richards were 26, they were made with new leadership already in place (Pronger/Giroux), and they were also made before the salary cap was reduced. The young forward talent can be solved with a trade later on if necessary. Now isn't the time given the current state of the team and league

it worked out great we swapped out Richards's leadership for Giroux's
Richards and Carter go on to win cups and Giroux gets scratched on team Canada - 2Real
Definitely Giroux's fault the 11-12 team didn't win the Cup instead of the Kings. Nothing to do with the goalie imploding, or the HoF dman's career ending.
The lazy bum only had 110 points in 88 total games.

For some late afternoon entertainment, what do you guys think Jake and G invidually could realistically get in return in a trade today?

A street hockey ball and a half eaten bag of chips that expired 3 months ago. According to some.....

In a package or separate? To a contender, a rebuilder, or a transition team?
Since the first tiebreak is head-to-head, North America needs to beat Sweden to advance, correct? Beat Sweden and they're in, lose to Sweden and they're out? If they lose to Sweden, Russia would, at worst, finish with the same record.
Richards deal was damn good. Especially with the decline. You saw signs of real issues while he was even with the Flyers.
I cant lean one way or another on the Carter move. I do think he doesn't become the player he is today if he stays in Philadelphia. The trade was a wake-up call. - flyer_nutter
Carter was every bit the player he is today, when he was a Flyer, including a 46 goal season. Carter was a top offensive player, and a solid all round two way player when he was here. He was just under appreciated by some elements of the fan base.
One, I don't think that the idea that a trade of Giroux or Voracek is crazy. It is true, that both will be past their prime when a lot of the prospects, will be hitting their prime hopefully. It's not an outlandish thought. Neither is keeping them and building around them, which I would prefer. Lastly, I don't think Giroux's NMC clause would be an issue, if the right deal was made. I don't think he would go just anywhere, but I think he would except a deal to a contender. Both of their cap hits and contract lengths would be the biggest hindrances.

Giroux and Voracek eat a ton of cap space and don't really produce at the level expected out of that cap level

Last season Jake got off to a very slow start which was compounded by injuries as the season wore on. He was never able to maintain his high level of play and production. The season before that he led the league for the majority of the season as the scoring leader. 4 seasons ago he scored 22 goals in the shortened 48 game season. He's a horse. I'm confident he'll return to all-star calibre play. As for Clode - it's pretty simple just glancing at his stats that last season was a little bit of a down year. He's an incredibly consistent scorer and I expect him to get back into the 80-90 point range this season.

You think Giroux is going to be a top-5 scorer next year? I think 70-80 is more likely.
