Hold your horses.
First of all, I don't like that you're making me agree with Chiefs.
A little homework shows that, a) nobody played 25+ min. a game. I don't think anyone playing under AV ever has. He rolls his lines and D pretty consistently. b) Yandle DID play top 4 min. He just didn't fit our system well.
AV didn't "force" Hayes to the wing. Hayes forced him to attempt something different to try and light a fire under his unmotivated ass. That would be the "no reason" that he was scratched - he deserved it.
I don't remember Fast playing top 6 all that often and when he did it was because the guys above him weren't getting it done and needed to be reminded of that.
All that being said, I think AV needs to be more flexible in his convictions in order to get the most out of his players over the long haul. - Tonybere
I'll admit I was wrong about ice-time, but if I remember correctly, Yandle was playing much less than Girardi and Staal early in the season and less than McD on the PP, and only McDonaghs concussion changed that, cause he was forced into more minutes. Btw, how does Yandle not fit AV's system, a system that's built on speed and the D being able to move the puck and QB breakouts? He's perfect for the system. Gi and Staal are as bad as you can get for that system. As far as Hayes, the narrative that he was unmotivated is so stupid. Believe me I watched and rewatched every Rangers goal against, and sure he mightve missed some assignments, but it seems like that "lazy" narrative that AV implied was just an excuse to blame him for terrible TEAM defense. Hayes wasn't lazy. He had some of the best shot suppression and possession numbers on the team. He's just young and made mistakes like any young player would do. As for Fast, he played in the top 6 more often than he should've. He had more shifts per game than Kreider and Miller, and had the third highest TOI per shift. His most common linemates were Stepan and Zucc. Yet he only managed 30 pts in 79 games. Believe me, I was on Blueshirt Banter after every game, and eveyone was complaining about how Fast was being used in an offensive role way too much. AV plain and simple made all the wrong moves last year, when he made moves at all. Hopefully he's better this year but I'm not holding my breath.

Yandle quite possibly was the worst defenseman I have ever seen in his own zone.
Thank goodness we don't have him for 6.3 million a year the next 7 years

As far as Yandle, he was good on the offense, but man was he awful in his own end a lot of times last year.
Fast I believe was moved up because of the Nash injury. There really wasn't many other options. I don't think anyone will argue the fact that Fast should be on the 3rd or 4th line this year.
Hayes, you are right on the money.
With all that being said, I really don't blame AV last year. The team as a whole just looked spent for a majority of the season. Really not much he could do. I do agree this year will be big for him. If this team has a bad 1st half I could see AV being let go.

...You did watch the Rangers last year right? And you do realize we have Dan Girardi and Marc Staal, right? I'm not saying Yandle is lockdown defense, but he is lightyears better than bambi and cyclops, our supposed shutdown dmen.

Yandle had his bad moments in his zone but would you really trust Gi or Staal in your own zone over him? Like, remember the game against the Ducks last year? Girardi turned the puck over 6 times in less than 30 seconds. I don't think theres any way Yandle was ever that bad. |

If we are talking strictly defense, yes I would trust those two guys over Yandle. I'm not going to defend Girardi's or Staal's play last year. The whole defense looked out of sorts. I think a lot of Girardis struggles last year were injuries and him being to proud to sit, and AV being to stubborn to bench him.
I think we see a much better defense this year. |

the all time leader in playoff games played in franchise history by a skater. 110 games. Probably 70 of them he was bleeding by the end of the game. Show a little phucking respect. |
