Yesterday I said Markstrom was Swedens 2nd best goalie, after watching them play last night , I change my mind. He is the best.

he's already on the decline... imo Kesler is better than him right now... for what he brings in big games...
- kaptaan

Just my opinion but he's hardly in decline!! He just turned 28 in April, in the past four years he's played 356 NHL regular season and playoff games, amassing 298 points, and one of those years was a half year (2012/13). That's 100 games a year average of tough hockey. Plus he's an elite two-way center with two Stanley Cups in that time frame.

The guys played A LOT of hockey in the past four years, he's still a top five center in the NHL because of his overall game. He sacrifices offence to play a 200 foot game. It shows, he's over +100 in that time frame as well.

I think in 2 years they will be complaining.

Generally when you pay a person 10 mil , you want numbers and production, not a shut down guy.

Totally agree, production has been fairly consistent his entire career. He hasnt been the offensive forward that puts up over a point per game, but a Bergeron type who can contribute points while playing good defensively. I think his team is due for a long summer but that will be because of the lack of depth not the decline of Toews

It's really a shame that Canucks can not match the brilliant goalies that the Laffs had over he last decade

Did you just use "Laffs".

Pulijaarvi will be on an entry level deal and Hall and Lucic were only 10 pts apart. Plus McJesus should be another 40 pts along this year so I'm not convinced EDM is concerned about losing Halls production. Let's face it EDM got pretty damn lucky with that draft selection with CLB taking Dubois. Basically a player who can step in next season (pulijarvi) and contribute which made someone expendable…turned out to be Hall.
- LordHumungous

No guarantees that Pulijarvi will be able to compete and score at that level. And Lucic is fine for this year, but he is old and his scoring will start to slow, as will his physical play. In the end that contract will hurt them when all the young guys need to get paid.

As always, their issues will be on the back end. They might average 3 goals a game, but let in 4.

Klefbom, Larrson, Fayne, Sekera, Nurse, and Davidson is their projected D, I think. I see some rubber in the net in their future.

GM nutter over there, would give up RNH for him, if we could get Sbisa to say he loves the city of Edmonton.

You want a guy who does both, which he does, he's a winner with more Stanley Cups to his name than Mario Lemieux (team game I know) plus a Conn Smythe trophy under his belt.

In today's NHL I'd take a 28 year old 60 to 70 point two-way on my team any day of the week, even at 10.5 million a year. He'll be 34 when his contract ends, dollars to dollars I don't' see that any different in 2022/23 than the current 7 million the Canucks are paying Henrik at 36 and next year at 37.

No one can argue with his numbers , his drive, his success. In the past he has been the second best player in hockey. There is just something in his game that I noticed since the playoffs last year that makes me think the decline is starting. Nothing more than a hunch.

All fair points to be sure.

They still have D issues no doubt but I think we can expect Chia Pet to make another D move soon...and (to me) Talbot showed he could be very effective playing in fron of a good top 4 D (NYR). I think he'll be ok. Nurse and Klefbom are another year along plus Larsson. Things are changing there not just the players the dynamics.

Couldn't agree more, I've never been on the Toews is the best in the league but is a fantastic player and I have a hard time thinking that contract is a bad one.

As far a Chicago goes, they might not be as good as they were a couple of years ago but I still think they can win another.

i think your comments in toto, are the trolling that some people accuse people from other fanbases of... you saunter on over to the Nux board and start putting up Lol icons, etc... and insult our goalchie of the near future...
- kaptaan

Did I insult him? Pretty sure I didn't. Don't understand where anyone is coming up with the fact I insulted him, pretty much the opposite actually. I said he didn't live up to the hype because he didn't.. he was one of the best prospects in the world for years and never turned into a top nhl goalie like people said he would, I never said he was a bust just didn't live up to expectations no big deal. I also said he's still young enough to get better and is already a decent goalie so not sure im insulting the (frank)ing kid.. everyone's looking for something to fight about i guess.

We will see. It will depend on what system they use, and how well they develop. Having some older guys like Fayne and Sekera are great and all, but there is no real leader on that backend and definitely no top end mature talent to teach them.

Fair enough, I like Detroit's chances of making the playoffs again.... I know I'm in the few but they were crushed by injuries again last year and like the addition of Greeen and Nielsen as well as their young players.

I expect Torts to be fired midseason, they should be improving but that hiring will of set them back again IMO.

- belcherbd

Haha ya honestly I dont know what they were thinking. I wouldnt hire torts to cut my lawn
