How many games did you watch Markstrom play last year. He has been fine. Like Hillybilly said anyone who makes comments about Markstrom struggling is is probably someone from the East that are looking up old clippings . Do your homework before coming in here complaining about Canucks goaltending. It was the strongest part of their game last year.

You felt the need to come in here and complain about Canuck goaltending for some unknown reason ? I was just reminding you about how sparkling your team goaltending is.

Lol it was a post in response to him not becoming what everyone thought he would which is true. I never even said he's a bad goalie so not sure why you're so defensive all the time.

Provided they get Gaudreau signed. Calgary is way off, anything less than 7.5mil for the kid is a steal.
- Retinalz

He will get signed I predict 5.8per 4 years.

He cant be OS'd. His only option if not signed is a trade which is unlikely. I am betting they want to exercise their rights while he is RFA and pay him as little as possible. I am interested in how it pans out just because he cant go through an arbitrator I dont think so they have to make a deal or trade him. Again, there is no way they want to do that.

Rumour is he was already offered 6.3m, 5.8 is very unlikely unless it is a 1 year show me deal. He will get more than Monahan. He finished 6th in the league for pts last year, 30 of which were goals. He will get around 7m.

If they low ball it will end up in a small 1 or 2 year contract, and they will pay for it in the end. a contract in 2 years if he produces like he is for the 2 years would be around 8.5m.

every year teams look better on paper than they did the year before and every year the game is decided on the ice with surprises and disappointments.

I think we should be better but can't wait to see how it plays out.

I'm not sure how often, over the last handful of seasons, the Oilers were picked to make the playoffs, but sooner or later it is going to happen. McDavid is a big game changer and their D should be better. Still I'd like to see them miss as much as any other division rival.

I lived in Edmonton for a while and I couldn't stand those crayon eating window lickers. They were more irritating than roughrider fans. Edmonton sucks.

That's funny because I don't think too many in here expected much from him when the trade was made. I don't see how you can say he failed expectations. I know I was hoping for a big young reliable goalie. Voila , exactly how he is turning out.

Why am I so defensive ? When fans from other teams come in here with idiot comments I can act however I see fit .

To be honest, it really doesnt matter. There is a very small chance he doesnt get signed. Like very small. If I were to guess, I would say 6.75 ish for 6 years.

Low balling him is going to end up as a PK Subban situation where he gets a ridiculous contract that'll hamper the Flames for years. Johnny Hockey wants the big bucks and rightfully so.

Pretty funny when Markstrom is suddenly a big concern, hell lets throw Demko in the mix too. We're in pretty good shape in goal. The posters from the other shyte teams should look at their own situation in net.

What is funny about this is he still may yet become a starter in the NHL. If the author of the article watched him last season, he might be aware Markstrom has gotten back on track.

So he might actually be turning out as predicted.

2 years for that price would be mine. He wants 8m on a long term deal, i would highly doubt he settles for that much less on a long term.

Dont get me wrong, I agree he wants and probably deserves more money but are the Flames willing to do that? They would be stupid not to.

This. He may be a bit of a late bloomer but its possible he still becomes more than he is now. He could actually become an excellent trade chip in a few years depending on Demko's development. Huge 'what if' but it could happen.

The Flames can't afford not to have him signed by the first game. He is a massive part of their offense. Gaudreau can financially afford it as if he signs later in the season he can have it added that the contract backdates to start of the season and he doesn't miss out on any money. Sundin did it with Vancouver.

Im not sure what you mean by signing later in the season. He currently doesnt have a contract for this upcoming year so if he doesnt then he wouldnt be playing. Whether or not Gaudreau can afford that is irrelevant just because they cant afford for him to miss any games for that reason.

If they sign him in November, he missed oct and w/e games in Nov until signed. But when he signs he can have the contract backdate to October and he gets full pay instead of missing pay for the time he had no contract. I know it is hard to understand, but CGY is in a tougher spot than Gaudreau. In addition to being a severely worse team on ice without him, there will be a media sh*t show(worse than anything Vancouver has had in years) followed by fans losing faith in current management, likely resulting in jobs lost. You simply do not start a season with your biggest star(tied with Monahan I would say) unable to play.

If it comes to that I think he would ask to be traded before missing games.

Probably, but my statement was suggesting that he hold more cards than people think. Infact I would say he has more leverage over his contract than management does.

It's happened before, Arnott and Niedermayer held out the year after winning the stanley cup.

Fedorov held out and returned to win the cup.

I'm pretty sure Peca sat out an entire season as well as a RFA.

It was more common before the latest CBA because it was the players only tool as a RFA if mgmt decided not to pay them.
