He is a one dimensional player. That one demention happens to be a great demention with that wicked shot. But you are right I don't think too many GM would of considered taking him 1st.

We got ridiculed for having a player you just described (albeit really fat)

At the moment, Matthews compares very favourably to Kopitar. Whether or not he can become the NHL player that Kopitar is depends on luck, management and the fans/media (somewhat)

so he is doomed

I think the Jets will be ecstatic with him at 2. It was a strong draft IMO.

But yes I was going to say that. Maybe he will be a giant Kessel

Absolutely. We are forever . It'd just be nice to make the playoffs and do (frank) all like the Rangers, the old Sabres and the Nucks. That's a win

Unfortunately I think you're correct. We'll never see the cup back in Canada (in our lifetimes). Top Canadian players will never 'come home' because of whether, taxes and fans/media . You can't solely draft a Stanley Cup winning team and top players will never came back to Canada. Not with Shapchat, Facebook, Twitter or Grinder.

Wow, Brooks Laich is, like, the most articulate, broadcast quality well-spoken athlete I think I've ever heard. He just sounds like some veteran talk radio host. I just listened to an interview, I'd listen to this guy talk hockey for hours, he could host a show with no further preparation.

i don't really agree with that conparison but I've heard others make it. He's just faster and has a higher ceiling than Kopitar.

I'm not a scout, but his play reminds me of when I saw Kopitar start in the league. Don't think he'll ever get the points of McDavid, Crosby, Giroux, Seguin etc. But the stuff he does all around Is way beyond his years.

I don't need to. Has no baring at all.

Matthews is going to be what Matthews is media and fans can't change it.

It's all reliant on his skills and abilities, his determination, and the teams ablility to nurture him and surround him with competent teammates.

Everyone seems to think he'll be this stellar two-way player like Toews or Bergeron. I think he's capable of more than that. He has unbelievable hands. He can control the puck and play more than those guys. I think he's in the McDavid conversation.

Yeah, he's a little more cerebral than O Dog. Which I guess you'd expect when the guy's name is O Dog.

I'd like to see Brooks Laich and Babock talk, or be in a cop buddy action movie together, where they are always at odds but win in the end.

I've been saying this for all of...this post...he's Kopitar without the puck, and Malkin with the puck.

I like that

He has that drive the net philosophy.

I hope with him and Connor and all the new adjustments that we start to see 140pt seasons again

I do agree. But this media can get the best of anyone. I think (if all pans out well) they've already got a lot of the pieces in place to help him. Matthews (given time) can do it all. PP, PK, defensive zone faceoff when you need a win/offensive zone faceoff when you're up by 1, against the top line, sneaky one against the 3rd line. You need a scoring presence on the 2nd line for this to work. This is where JVR/Nylander/Marner come in.

You don't need superstars for Matthews line, just the right kind of players

Weather. Its weather....whether or not whether is the issue, you spell it weather. I think that might be a clue as to why the cup might not come back to Canada. (frank) people, get your poop together.
