The Cubs have certainly lost as much, and their fans are loyal, but they don't have the numbers that Yankee fans do, which is where the Leafs fanbase is relative to the NHL.

That's tough to measure.

Let's say you look at total team value as an indicator of a team's popularity, then the Yankees are way ahead of any other team in the MLB, but between 2nd and 5th (Cubs being 5th), there's not much difference.

Right now, as it stands, the Leafs are 3rd in total team value in the NHL behind the Habs and the Rangers.

To say that the Leafs are, in relative (and definitive) terms, more fervent than Cubs fans would be a tough sell for me.

Yes after 6-8 years of being a complete disaster, the leafs just recently drop from top spot in popularity and value.
In two years, they'll be back on top if they go on a upward swing.

What Prince is doing is blaming Sundin for the lack of Leafs success, when he is quite probably the greatest player this organization has ever had and he was consistently surrounded by sub-par talent.

also, I agree with you generally that Sundin was a great player. i'm glad he came to Vancity and retired a Canuck myself.
