That's tough to measure.

Let's say you look at total team value as an indicator of a team's popularity, then the Yankees are way ahead of any other team in the MLB, but between 2nd and 5th (Cubs being 5th), there's not much difference.

Right now, as it stands, the Leafs are 3rd in total team value in the NHL behind the Habs and the Rangers.

To say that the Leafs are, in relative (and definitive) terms, more fervent than Cubs fans would be a tough sell for me.

He a good defenseman, but $9 million per is way too much. Trading him was the right move, but Bergevin should have went in the picks/prospects direction instead of Webber. In order to stay competitive in a cap league, a steady stream of good young players on ELC's coming into the system gives teams a sustained advantage.
