I feel that there are many white people here commenting on issues that disproportionately affect non-white people and that are making themselves look at best sheltered, and worst like fools.

Let's keep it to hockey, people

It's close to the election. It's unavoidable at this point. I'm honestly surprised it's been this calm for this long.

It's always something isn't it, what about all the black on black crime that goes on in this country everyday and nobody says anything about that. They only say something if it's a cop or a white person. 14 murders in 2 days in Chicago and nothing is said about it. People need to open there eyes instead of the tunnel vision they have. All Life matters no matter what color, sexual orientation, what country you come from, it all matters and there are to many people that have no respect for anyone or themselves now a days.

I thought the Rams were a better team, I tried to draft Gurley in my leagues but missed out, I like Gurley.

There's stuff like that here to, I don't think it's a once a month thing. What they do in LA they usually do here, why I don't know.
- SABRES 89

Things are still really bad here. I know Vegas has a relatively high crime rate, but I didn't think they came anywhere near the murder rate we have here. It is being talked about, but it's just in the affected areas, it doesn't spread well, and it's old news and pretty uncontroversial. Neither of which is good for ratings both locally, nor nationally.

My wife and I tell our son every night before school that you treat people the way you want to be treated, you treat everyone with respect no matter what.

Not at all.

But if you don't fall in to certain demographics, then you don't get to tell people that do what they should be looking for in life. I'm a white, straight male who doesn't subscribe to any particular religion, so if somebody doesn't fall into the same demographics as me in that regard, that means that I don't get to tell them what they should do - I just get to listen.

There's a lot of problems here, I was born on the west side lived on 7th street, crime was higher there then when I lived in Kenmore.

I'm white and straight also but that has nothing to do with it, point is you treat people with respect you will get respect and by doing so you avoid all the problems that are going on.

Do you like it when other people value your concerns? Maybe then, to treat them as you want them to treat you, you ought to value the concerns of others.

Agreed. Treating people the way that you want to be treated is a great start, but it's just that - a start. Unless you listen to people in different situations, particularly those that regularly face discrimination, and try to empathize with them wherever possible, then you can only really deal with what *you* expect, and not what others want.

Spot on

EDIT: I say this as somebody who has never been discriminated against in my life. My race has never been an issue, nor has my gender. I've never feared for myself when interacting with police, and I've never been treated as inferior for any reason (besides being a Leaf fan ).

Anyway, the point is that when trying to put yourself in other shoes, an open ear is so much more valuable than an open mouth

Yeah but when the guys on the sideline expressed their opinion how much respect did you give them? And when I mentioned my concern about treatment by cops you told me I should focus instead on black on black crime because the once a month "Stop the Violence" protests you admit happen are - in your words - "nobody saying anything about that."

how much respect is Kapernick giving the African American first responders or African Americans that died during 911 ? If he is trying to raise awareness he should do it for all African Americans.

I was recently in a local bar on lunch to eat wings at a place in Cheektowaga. I was wearing a Syracuse Orange polo. A guy most likely hammered, noticed I was putting two bar tables together for the people that were showing up to eat with us. As an attempt to bond with me, the guy said "Wearing a Syracuse shirt, you shouldn't be moving that table", I said "I know, someone should he doing this for me". The drunk replied "Yea, a N___R". Guy couldn't figure out why I have him a dirty look and didn't respond.

I was (frank)ing amazed. This is in Cheektowaga. Two minutes later one of my co-workers showed up who according to him, should have moved the table for me. Guy wouldn't look at us, and was visibly nervous that I would tell my coworker what he said. I kept my mouth shut.

People are cowards. Moral of my story

His protest has NOTHING to do with 9/11, and very little to do with first responders.

What's more disrespectful? Quietly kneeling during the anthem, or the people yelling at them to stand up, during the anthem? I'd say they're both about equal, and they're both about deeply held principles, but it is more than a bit ironic that people that are telling someone they're being disrespectful are themselves being disrespectful.

The sideline reporter said people were yelling at them to stand during the anthem.

The protests are not about the flag nor are they about the anthem - and they are certainly not about 9/11. They're about bringing awareness to a disproportionate amount of violence from the police to black people. That's it. The fact that this poop has been going on for years and Richard all has happened is why we're at this point. People aren't listening. There's no investigations. If the state police forces showed that they were doing anything - literally anything - to figure out what was going on and how to fix it then this wouldn't happen...

He is, he's donating a million dollars, and all the money from his jersey sales to organizations in the bay area, and the team is donating a million dollars too I think? towards inequality.

People booing Obama during his 9/11 message. That poop made me angry, and I'm not American. That was complete and utter bullpoop, and they should find every (frank)er that did that and ban them from attending games
