TBH I think that he'll be one of the main challengers for it. I think that Matt Murray is also still eligible, so throw his name (potentially) into the mix also
- lumlums
Depends on who he plays with. Could be on the Viking Line with Landy and Sodeberg, being the big body cycle shutdown line, or just give him the keys to the kingdom and rid shotgun with MacK. |

Oh he will and sooner than later, this is a transition year for him where he will show amazing things some days and struggle others, it's normal. He will have to learn to handle the 82 games schedule, constant travel, tons of pressure, top league in the world, much more physical than he is used to. |

Teams with multiple top rookies rarely win the Calder trophy eg. Tampa with Johnson and Kucherov, since voting gets split between their candidates. Winning the Calder is not that important vs having multiple really solid developing players. Good problem to have and yes, very rare for the Leafs.
I unfortunately expect Marner will be returned to London. Bonus dollars are likely to get in the way of having so many ELCs on the roster. Rules for Bonus dollars are pretty rigid in the CBA and overages are not covered by LTIR savings.
The discussion of other options for young talented juniors comes up every year with different teams eg. again Tampa and Drouin. I doubt things are going to change since the CHL teams are running businesses that would need to compensated in some way. Big teams like the Leafs would likely be willing to pay but too many others wouldn't.
Markham Magician Mitch Marner? Have you been reading the Garth posts again?

EDIT: I would say Vatrano, but he's not eligible anymore and *somehow* didn't get nominated last year! - lumlums
Bruinsiak guaranteed it though |

You can exceed the cap in potential performance bonuses by $5.475M.
performance bonuses:
Zaitsev – 850k
Mathews – 2.85M
Nylander – 850k
Marner – 850k
Total $5.4M |

I agree with 3 options it won't be as easy to put one person into that successful position on say line 1 or PP1.
Markham Magician Mitch Marner...I once had that as a title of my blog if I'm not mistaken

I think that would only surprise the haters. That's on par with similar talents like Hall, Tavares, Stamkos, Eichel and MacKinnon...even your boy Jackingoffapov was on pace for 55+ |

yeah I think his totals will depending entirely on how long it takes Babs to move him into positions to succeed. IE powerplay or a production type line. |
