Hark! A Leaf fan spouting words of wisdom and restraint! The end surely is nigh!
(Agree with what you said by the way) - Wildschwein
The end is nigh...I seen a guy on the street earlier today with that exact quote on his sign. |

Why are you lumping me in with someone when I haven't been on this site in years? - -Dangles13-
Sorry about that, I should have mentioned exactly whom I was referring to.

Did all the homework and it's still the same conclusion. Chia got ass raped. Period. - Iggysbff
If you did all of the homework and research, then you would realized that this trade can go either way. It can end up as a really good one for both teams or a below average one for one team (Edmonton) and a good one of the other team.
It all depends on how Larsson pans out imo. Research suggests that he does have a good amount of offensive potential that has yet to be tapped.
We did overpay, there is no denying that (especially considering the development risks involved (offensively)). Everybody was expecting a Larsson +, but this is where opinion can come to mind.
At this moment, we'll have to wait and see what Larsson can actually prove on the ice (offensively). We know he is a defensive beast who can be relied in the defensive zone night in and night out just by looking at how he played in NJ and excelled wonderfully in defensive situations.
Time will tell. |

Trading Hall should have netted an Ekblad not a guy that is maybe going to be a number #2. He isn't unproven but there is a big difference in being hidden in the swamp and in the lime light of Canadian hockey. Two years ago he was maybe a bust and now is a stud I think the answer is somewhere in between hopefully. - NEONDOUBLEDION
No, trading Hall should have netted Subban (if we are talking about equal value).
I cannot believe we backed out of that one because of the cap hit. Like are you (frank)ing kidding me?
Nonetheless, Larsson is still a great defender to add to any team's roster, but man am I pissed about that. Subban would have fit our style of play quite nicely.
Even if it was Hall and Yak for Subban, that move would be made 9/10. |

The thing that bothered me the most about the Hall trade is that the defence is still full of question marks. Can Klefbom stay healthy and take another step? Will Nurse calm his tits and take another step? Will Reinhart evolve from his current stage as a sexy paperweight? Can Larsson play up to his potential? |

Montreal didn't want Hall from what I've read. It was reported that they wanted Draisaitl, Nurse and the 2016 4th. And if that was the case then Bergevin can go (frank) himself. |

Yes it is. But even Shero said Chiarelli had done his homework and shopped around. Larsson was the best available return.
What would we all be saying if Chiarelli had not made the trade? Demers and Yandle went to Florida and Goligoski to Arizona. Should we have kept Hall and signed Russell instead? Far more question marks down that road. |

I think a lot of teams wanted Draisaitl...thats who the Avs were asking for if they moved Barrie.
the fact that he is good and cost controlled for a few more years until a really fat contract is super enticing for teams but hes still not an established player yet, who knows how good he ends up being, but the upside is too good to pass up. I assume Chia felt the same way |

I just don't like the gamble of trading a game-breaker for a good piece. It is what it is I just never voiced my concerns when it happened as I was not here. Making up for lost time. |

I'd trade Draisaitl for Barrie straight up, now that his extension is signed. |

Really? You seriously can't understand this? You do know McDavid is going to get paid when his ELC is up. Plus the likelihood that Draisaitl continues to play well means he will get paid too. Managing the cap is an important part of being a GM these days. |
