99% of the time I agree with you. I wasn't mad about the Dareus thing. That was 100% on him. But this Henderson one isn't sitting well with me. I get that this isn't his first run in with being on the wrong side of this discussion. But there's a much different side to it this time.

Basically he either had to deal with debilitating pain or fail his drug test. Neither is a very great option.

the qb down here a few years ago, david garrad had the same situation

he never flunked a pot test

I guess what I am getting at, is there is better ways to handle it, and I view it as a probable excuse to light up

I can eat taco bell each day to get the squirts if it gets me the sweet weed

He had over 2 feet of his intestines removed from Crones, a lot different than the Taco Bell squirts...

Yeah, I'm with you on this. So many celebrities/athletes think they're above ru;es and such and I can just see it as just doing what they wanna do.

I can't speak from experience or even know from people close to me if it's as worthwhile as reported, but I tend to think pot would help in these cases...but that in this particular case it was used more as an awesome attempt around the rules to do something he enjoys while also trying to get some real relief.

didn't we already go through that "puck-mover" phase during "the core" years?
- Michael Pachla

We did except most of those guys weren't even good at moving the puck. Not quite the same as offensive defensemen. Hampus Lindholm is the extreme example of this. in addition to being a great passer and good at puck recovery he's the best at literally moving the puck out of the d-zone (in relatively quick fashion) and turning it into possession going the other way. But nobody would consider him to be an offensive defensemen.

Have you ever actually personally known someone with that type of disease? Sat down and had a conversation with them about how it effects their day to day life? Because I have. I worked with a guy that had Crohn's and my god daughter was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of 3 (she's now 17). And let me tell you, I don't wish that on my worst enemy.

It very well could be, but that doesn't mean that it's not a legit treatment for what he's dealing with.

100%, but I think there was likely a good bit of "Oh hell, I can get high and avoid some of this pain? Hell yes!"

The only other thing I can say is just because one form of treatment works for one person, that doesn't mean it will work for another.

Now I don't know if Henderson tried every other option, but if he did and none of them worked then I side with him on this one.

He very well could be looking for an excuse to smoke pot. But in this case the NFL has it wrong IMO.

That's pretty much where I'm at with it too. A good friend of mine was diagnosed with colitis about a year and a half ago. He barely left the house for close to a year because either he was in so much pain he couldn't or because he never knew how his body was going to react to things. It's horrible to have to watch someone go through that. My heart really goes out to Henderson on this one because it's not an easy thing to deal with. While I agree that rules are rules, I can't begrudge him trying to feel better in some way, and if pot helped his pain and was something he also enjoyed, all the power to him.

yes he did

again, gm needs to address it during pre draft interviews, and when they fall the first test

- homiedclown

grabbing Henderson in the seventh round was a great low-risk/high-reward move by whaley and co...dude was one of the top players coming out of high school so gambling with a 7th-rounder isn't egregious

I get it, to a point. But the fact of the matter is the guy has a legit serious medical condition. It's a very, very painful one. The fact that they'd rather him take something highly addictive like oxycodone instead is really stupid. Because really, the long term effects that could have on him are far worse.

I don't typically condone any type of drug use. But there are execptions to every rule. And this is coming from someone who doesn't even like to take ibuprofen. I guess maybe I just feel for him being that I have some people in my life that suffer from a similar condition and I've seen what it can do to them.

- HonkFortheGoose

In his case maybe he should have gone to the league before asking for an exception with the medical reasoning..

or in some cases they were no longer any good at being a puck mover and still sucked at defense

I agree. But based on his previous history, my guess is they would have laughed at him and told him no anyway, which is his own fault.

Tons of sympathy for what he's going through, absolutely zero for being suspended though.

This is the part I disagree with. We got the LD part, but I don't agree that it's one that can play with Risto.

He's a 2nd pair guy. I'm not trying to say he's bad or that Pysyk was better or anything. I just don't think it's that significant of an upgrade over what we had, if any. I hope to god I'm wrong. I just have a gut feeling I'm not.

That doesn't mean that our D would be better had we not made the trade. The entire idea one way or the other for me is just "Meh."

- HonkFortheGoose

He can play with Risto. He's not the answer but he's not going to hurt him either. That's what I'm saying. It's an upgrade to last year.

But most medical strands don't give you the high effect, if it is for pain relief, or the children who have seizures, they are not getting high. Its not the same as rolling a joint and smoking up with your boys. I smoked pot once in my life, so im not pro pot or anything, but the NFL thinks its ok to load guys up with addictive pain pills and cortisone shots, but not have medical weed to do the same thing without them getting addicted or "high"

Information I didn't know, but as I've said, no problem with the use by anyone in the world, but it's still a rule in the NFL - and a law in the vast majority of the country as well.

That said, who knows if he had medical grade or not either.

His prior issues? Probably not. This time i would probably say yes, and he probably wasn't smoking it. He probably had edibles. When i lived in Cali, we went in to one of the shops just to check it out. It was insane, literally strands for everything. You start to realize and look at things differently when you see families in there for there children that have no other relief. These people who come up with these strands are geniuses, the things they have to go through and everything be 100% correct is unreal. And they are not doing it to get people high. They want to help people. I had no idea either that most of the medical stuff doesn't give you the high feeling until we went there and talked with people. It is very interesting.
