When you finish last you deserve the first pick, the Oilers sure as hell didn't deserve to get another first overall pick.

I wish the rules made it such.

In some leagues if you finish last you don't get to play on the same league. Maybe that's what the Sabres "deserved".

Why do you "deserve" to have a particular player on your favorite hockey team?
- Der Kaiser

Again, you can quibble with words all you want. The Sabres still didn't get the ultimate prize intended by the strategy they took. They were the bridesmaid...again.

The ultimate prize is not a particular player. It's the Cup.

Chiarelli is a mess, and hasn't shown that he has a plan to pull the Oil out of the toilet that MacT & Co left them in. The Sabres will win the Cup before the Oilers do. (But not because any fan "deserves" it.).

He is right in a sense. In theory, the Sabres didn't "deserve" anybody. However, the only thing that would make the strategy they took the past 3 or 4 years worth it, was getting the best player available in a long time. That didn't happen.

The odds are better that neither team wins a cup.

The Oilers will never move forward until they get rid of RNH and Eberle, it's time to go in another direction with McDavid and others leading the way.

Can't watch the game because I'm at work, but I see Eichel is at 57% on the draw. The WC website boxscore does not show how many draws any given player has taken, so it's hard to actually draw a conclusion from the stat, but that's a solid number. I hope it's a sign of improvement in the faceoff department.

McJesus is at 44%, FWIW.

*EDIT* Eichel now at 50%, apparently.
*EDIT to the EDIT* Make that 44%.
*EDIT to the Edit to the Edit* And back up to 56%.

I've always thought relegation would be awesome, but it just wouldn't work with hockey. The bad Sabres would absolutely destroy the best AHL team, the Marlies, let alone some of the bad ones, like the Amerks. You have to remember the Sabres were trying to be bad too. The bad Sabres would probably go 72-5-5 in the AHL.

A lot can change in a short tournament, but Team Europe looks bad.

Did Eichel and McDavid switch lines, or was Eichel just out late/early for a shift?

Edit: Looks like I'll answer myself again, line changed, McDavid now with Saad and Gaudreau

"Better off without the better player". It's the mantra of the Buffalo Sports fan.
