I think Eichel scores 40 goals and takes the C after this year.

It amuses me how he is getting dissed around the league by many.

McDavid is ranked #9 in the Hockey News top 50, and Eichel isn't listed.

Considering Eichel scored similar to Stamkos and JT his rookie year, how he isn't a top 50 player is unreal

- sbroads24

And scoring is down this year compared to those years.

Stamkos rookie year, 2008 5.7 goals per game (both teams)
Tavares rookie year, 2009, 5.53 goals per game (both teams)

Eichel rookie year, 2016, 5.34 goals per game (both teams)

Edit: rookie stats
Stamkos 2008, 79 games - 46points
Tavares, 2009, 82 games - 54 points

Eichel, 2016, 81 games - 56 points

Yea I don't get how he isn't getting the least bit of hype nationally. Is he not a candidate to break out with 75-80 points?

I'd be willing to bet he's top 10 in scoring this year

Leafs picked 1st overall last season. Jack was a 2nd overall pic . 2nd only gets you a silver. Wipes out all else hockey related.

I kinda like that he is under the radar. It just gives him more motivation.

I see him as the type of player that takes things like that to heart and uses it to improve.

He goes on a tear and puts the league on notice.

It varies, you know I'm not a fan and wanted him moved last year before he even got hurt.

Too much east west in his game. People were comparing him to Briere at one point...

The difference is I don't go out of my way to bash him...

That being said it looks like he is in the top 6 this year...lets see what he can do

- Stripes77

It must be because I haven't been around at all all summer with the exception of July 1st, but I actually completely forgot about Ennis.

Somewhat easy answer as I see it...McDavid. He'll always be considered the best of his age given the Canadian bias...that said, he did have a better rookie campaign, so it is understandable....but Canadian media is going to trumpet McDavid.
I do agree that Eichel should be in top 50 though.

Now it will be interesting on how the American savior of The Hockey Mecca also known as Toronto; Austin Matthews fairs. Will the Canadian media love him because he plays for the leafs, or will they hold onto the favorite son of their flag?

None the less, fun time for hockey fans with all the promising young guns!

It's just funny. Matthews is now the new hype train. McDavid is viewed as maybe the best player in the league this year (possible, or likely) and Eichel is.......

Sure, and no one said they don't matter at all.

Special tams just matter a fraction to what even strength play does.

Considering 80% of the game is played 5 on 5, I don't see how its an argument

Going to score us a boat load of points and be exactly who we thought he was. I don't really care that the media has "forgotten" about him. It's less national pressure on him and based on what we know about him, will motivate him to prove to them that he shouldn't have been forgotten about.

when most games are decided by 1 goal, 2 if an empty netter occurs, special teams matter a lot more then most people think
