I can't bring myself to really care about this World Cup, not like the Olympics. I know that's not really rational, but I can't get past the gimmick teams. At least one way or the other the Leafs will have a World Cup Champion on their team after the tournament, one of their guys or Babcock will in it. Woo hoo, adding a World Cup Winner to the team, sweet!

You'll see all countries next year I believe they are doing this to get people to watch it. Which it will work. I'm not sure about everyone else but I'm very intrigued by this NA team, I will be watching it for sure.

You are right. It's no Olympics and I don't think the Olympics and this should be compared. It's a tournament where the best of the best is facing eachother and it will be a hell of a lot better watching meaningless pre season games.

There is that to it. I'll watch some of it, but honestly it just isn't the heart pounding, big deal event feel for me as The Olympics, because of the continental teams. It doesn't seem official. The owners and PA are insane idiots. I'm just gonna cheer for Komagod to win it.

I hope they go with just national teams next time around, we'll see. I love the idea of establishing a regular best on best international tournament, I'd dig it as an official thing like soccer has, without the novelty teams.

Problem is, a lot of the younger players wouldn't make the regular national teams, save for McDavid, Matthews, etc. There's a lot of really good players in their prime that aren't making the team, so this gives the kids a chance to play too.

Plus, a Team NA vs. Canada finals isn't out of the question, given the talent on the team; could be a lot of fun.
