If Pulju and Nurse both make it full-time the roster should feature some good size with Lucic, Maroon, Kassian, Nurse, Pulju, Pouliot, maybe even Gryba.

I have to agree with you man this team is ready to make the step if we stay healthy there are no excuses. We have a NHL defense all be it with a missing piece that will be addressed next year to make us cup ready. Our forward lines are scary and Talbot played his best down the stretch when our defense was the worst. Go Oilers!

Injuries happen to every team. That is what depth is for.

You are what the 2nd worst team and anything but a playoff spot is a failure. Not gonna happen. Progress towards a playoff spot is what should be realistic. Like 10-14 spot would be good. Expecting pretty much the same team as last year to all of a sudden be a playoff team is unrealistic.

So my prediction of a Devils-Oilers Stanley Cup Final is unlikely?

They really aren't the same team as last year.

Shipped out their captain.
Brought in a replacement winger, who plays a very different style.
Finally got a solid puck moving D.
Added another stud via the draft.
Expect a healthy McDavid for the bulk of the season.

I expect them to have a fresh attitude from day 1. and they have addressed a glaring need by trading from a position of strength. Even though they lost the trade, they still improved the team.

Also, I think there will be at least 1 more significant trade either before or shortly after the season starts.

So they added 3 players. That's pretty much the same team. Who knows how much Lucic has left. How Larsson is used will be huge. Puljujarvi is a rookie with maybe 3-4 guys ahead of him for 1st PP, depends how much EDM wants to rely on him during his 1st year.

If any of those three fail to live up to (expectations, health, et al)...No chance...

Hey Matt, I was thinking about the Oilers lines this year. How do these look?

Kassian-RNH-Pulijarvi
Pouliot-Draisaitl-Eberle
Maroon-Letestu-Pakarinen

From my perspective, even without Taylor Hall, the offence in Edmonton is still pretty stacked! I also think that Draisaitl should play with a veteran like Eberle as he did awesome when Hall was on his wing and he definitely needs a veteran presence. I think Kassian would fit great with RNH and Pulijarvi in order to add that grit to the line.

Just my thoughts....

Ha, maybe. I don't know if EDM is playoff ready. You add a guy who knows how much he has left(Lucic), an upgrade on defense and another rookie, does that change the makeup of the team? IDK, but we'll see.
