He'll at least get a shot this year, as far as the lineup looks going into the season. He has a couple more years to make it—so no rush.

Shinkaruk may work out but he is slow as molasses. That's fine if you have skills and awareness like the Sedins but Hunter didn't appear to have that.
If you are slow you need to be able to get the puck and work hard in the corners. You also have to be defensively aware.
I see Shink as a Hodgson type as far as speed is concerned. The good news is, Horvat was pretty slow too but spent a summer working on his skating and is much better.

I also think there is a pretty good chance Shinkaruk may get injured due to his lack of speed. He likes to handle the puck and is likely to get drilled.

What we got back in trade was a serviceable 3/4 C with good defensive instincts.
Shink has more potential upside but is also more likely to"Flame" out

It's not that I love him....it's just that for a guy who's put up some decent points every year - scores on the penalty shot/good at draws/isn't a douche, he's not too bad. I don't get all the hate...he just needs to play with Komarov so he won't need to learn defense.

He definitely can convert on breakaways/shootouts, win a faceoff, and puts together nice little point streaks from time to time. In the right role he's okay.

I think the hate stems from seeing him play all those important minutes over the past 3 seasons. Not that it's his fault - it is what it is.
