Easy, Tiger.
Are we really in a position to get cocky about our defense? It will almost definitely be better than last season, but until that happens....

Won't losing Yandle hurt you guys a little?

How will it be better than last year? I understand the "Yandle is bad in his own end argument", but he isnt as bad as stated, has a good corsi, and got nearly 50 pts last year

A great pair, but halfway through the season will be blamed for everything wrong with the Flyers record, and if the playoffs are made, will be blamed for the inevitable exit as well.

Hahahahaha!! Oh, were you serious?

Every single shift Yandle took was a toss up as to whether he would record a point or give it away for a goal against.
I, for one, am glad to see him gone. In fact, I don't understand how the brass didn't recognize that the team was not as good as their record last season and move him at the trade deadline. Instead they traded away good prospects for Staal. Serious blunder.
Yandle's offensive capabilities being gone is a concern, but popular opinion (including mine) is that rookie Brady Skjei will largely make up for that.

His point total was definitely high. But all in all, he wasn't really a good fit. His real strength is carrying the puck through the neutral zone and Vigneault wants the D to make the breakout pass ASAP. His 1st pass abilities are much less impressive and he tried to force it through A LOT.
As I stated, rookie Brady Skjei is a really good looking young puck-mover. He looked great when he FINALLY cracked the line up in the playoffs, so hopefully he mitigates that loss.
Another plus is that Dan Boyle is gone. If it weren't for liability, Boyle would have no ability left at all.
On top of that, there is very little chance that after their longest off-season in years, Girardi and M. Staal play as badly as they did last year.

Hey, I just figured that if he was that bad defensively, Vigneault wouldn't have boosted his ice time over 22min per game when Mcdonagh went down.

Guess I was wrong.

I, for one, think Yandle is a pretty solid player (even if not the best defensively).

They will be blamed by clueless people and media that still think goaltending is the issue in Philly.

I definitely overstate his weaknesses, I admit. I guess it's because I wasn't crazy about what it cost us to acquire him in the first place and then we didn't recoup any assets by trading him last spring.
His defensive lapses are plentiful and spectacular, though.
And AV didn't have a lot of options when McD got hurt. At least, not ones he would use. He really seems to struggle with favouring vets over young players. I hope he comes to terms with it this season, though. The Rangers will have one of the younger line-ups in the league this year, but I still expect a playoff appearance (most likely in the bottom of the eight).

Right.
That's why when Price went down last year your team barely won another game. I don't remember EVER seeing a team so heavily effected by one injury. That is the epitome of a tandem NOT being strong.

Was he a shutdown type? hell no.. but I think people around here are bashing his 2 way game a bit too much now that hes gone. with that said the contract he got from FLA will be an absolute joke in a few years

Nice Retort.
I have already stated that I was wrong by thinking that Montoya was there last season. What is it that you find so offensive? Is this your way of sticking up for your team? Telling someone to shut up instead of engaging in a discussion about whose argument has merit?
Or, are you trying to say that I am off base in pointing out that when Price got hurt your team was terrible? Let's see.... 17-4-2 with Price, 21-34-4 without him.
Tell me where I'm wrong, Idiot. Or, do you just want to tell me to shut up again? People like you are the reason that other team's fans can't stand the Canadiens.

They signed Jimmy Vesey. They'll be fine. Other teams will barely get to touch the puck and everyone from Harvard plays a hard two way game. The're smart that way!
He probably plays D better then Yandle. He's like a third defenseman. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Rangers put out a lineup of 4 forwards and one defenseman when Vesey is on the ice.

I was thinking you guys could trade Raanta and clear up $1M in cap space and just use Vesey on Hank's nights off. Vesey's contract would pay for itself!

I think Vesey might be busy telling Gorton what moves to do during the season. He has a pretty full plate.

Bishop/Vasy should be mentioned. Not sure if they are #1, but definitely should have been mentioned at least.

Not sure Frenchy about your praise for Lundqvist. He didn't have a great year last season, & cracks opened up on the ice & off it with a few snipes at the coach here & there. Was it frustration? Was it a sign of decline & he realising the impact it has on his play? They were so close - they should have won it once shouldn't they? They are getting further & further away from the cup & Lundqvist may just have missed the opportunity???

Vegas will get a good goalie. They are required to draft 3. If I'm them I go after a big name MAF/ Bishop and get 2 promising youngsters.
- Gerk

This is where it might get interesting for Vegas. Bishop is UFA so not sure he is available & surely they would take Kucherov if he was available. So they don't draft Bishop but have to draft 3 others, wtf will they do with 4 goalies if they pick Bishop up in FA? They can't trade any expansion draft players can they? That means 4 goalies skating around a 1 team town????
