Bishop/Vas and Fleury/Murray are certainly the most balanced tandems.
Lundqvist and whoever is the backup that year is in the conversation every year by default because Lundqvist is just so good. |

Right.
That's why when Price went down last year your team barely won another game. I don't remember EVER seeing a team so heavily effected by one injury. That is the epitome of a tandem NOT being strong. - Tonybere
Wow.
Don't you look foolish?
Bishop/Vasilevski is my answer because both are very good goaltenders. |

Not having the best goalie in the world (Price) in this list is funny.
Price Montoya are up there in the top 3. - WaterBoy
Price is a big question mark coming off that injury |

You know you got something good going when you have 10 million + tied up in two guys who would be backups on 90% of NHL teams. - Gerk
I wouldn't pick Mason and Neuvirth as the best tandem but they did have a great combined year and deserve to be in that conversation. That said they sure look like the most bang for your buck at only $5.725 in combined salary. And in the cap era getting the most important position nailed down at a cut rate is rather impressive and helpful. |

Well he's not wrong. This isn't a list of who's the best goalie. It's a list of which team had the two best goalies. Clearly montreals backup couldn't hack it. - rangerdanger94
Right, but when answering to a Price/Montoya comment, he's completely wrong talking about last year wouldn't you say? |

Montoya was in Florida last season with Luongo,,,, How'd that duo end the season...
I'll agree that Price/Montoya is strong.
Bishop/Vas, MAF/Murray and Mason/Neuvy are all also good choices. - dragonoffrost
Ok. My bad. I was thinking Big Al was there last year. He will never live up to his draft position, but he has made some strides, to be sure. |

We've got 2 solid #2 guys, both being paid like starters.
Nill has done a lot right, but he's missed here.

I see Dallas as a good candidate to try and land Bishop or MAF this season wouldn't you say?
The price shouldn't be too high since they kinda NEED to trade them before the expansion draft. |

I wouldn't be either. It's like the people who say Rangers should be concerned that Lundqvist is done because he had a bad series against Pitt. |

People have short memories.
Too much talent in these guys for them to suddently become terrible. |

Kari and Niemi each have 2 years left. You would have to trade one (give away prospect) or eat contract. Still you bring in Bishop and MAF and now you're going to be closer to 12 million tied up in 2 goalies. I don't see it happening. |

I would compare losing Lundqvist for a significant period of time to what happened with Price. - Streit2ThePoint
Possibly. But when that happened before, Talbot was more than up to the challenge.
Raanta seems to be capable as well. No one can replace the King, of course. But with an NHL career record of 31-15, the Rangers should be able to avoid a tailspin like Montreal experienced last year if the worst were to happen. |

I thought one of them had a contract ending after this year... that does complicate things....
Maybe at the end of the season if somehow you're confident Vegas would take Niemi through expansion... |

The Rangers also had a better team at that time to compensate than the Habs last year imo... Especially on defense. |

Vegas will get a good goalie. They are required to draft 3. If I'm them I go after a big name MAF/ Bishop and get 2 promising youngsters. |

Easy, Tiger.
Are we really in a position to get cocky about our defense? It will almost definitely be better than last season, but until that happens.... |

I wouldn't be shocked MAF and Bishop are protected by teams they currently aren't on. There's a few teams that can use a goalie like them that can trade for them and protect them. Which then gets Pitt and TB something for them rather than losing Murray or Vasy in the expansion draft. |
