How many years did these top prospects stay there? Basically none and 1. - AdamFrench
I thought the conversation was more about the players that came out of the NCAA, not necessarily how long they played there?
Anyhoo, plenty of good players come out of the NCAA.
Also, like I said, I am not arguing the NCAA is better because it is not. All I said, was I think its quality is being a little undermined in this thread. |

Disagree, and you sound like a Vancouver fan discussing Toronto prospects.
He would be the #1 D prospect in our system, easily, assuming Rielly can no longer be called a prospect. - Aetherial
Well, I disagree. and that has nothing to do with the Canucks. I was legitimately shocked when they took him. None of the scouting agencies had him near 5th at point of draft. Chycrun was pretty much unanimously ahead of him.
Most scouting agencies had him somewhere from 10-15, and personally, I think that was probably helped out a bit by his teammates. that's my opinion. And again, that's nothing to do with the Canucks.
Scouting agencies can rank a player low, people will think he gets drafted low, and then as soon as a team takes him earlier than expected, they suddenly change their minds. Why is that?
The entire world thought Marner was better than Strome until they went in reverse order, then suddenly Strome was getting ranked higher. BS. |

Name all the stars that have come out of the NCAA.
Name all the stars that have come out of the CHL.
You won't find the lists are even comparable.
I am not sure I believe their 30% of players either. - Aetherial

The caliber of hockey is pretty similar, given that they're much older. The caliber of players isn't. |

Dylan Strome will follow his brother Ryan Strome as one of the most overrated young players in the league - BernardShakey

It was pretty 50/50, maybe 60/40 in favour of Strome actually. |

Bob mackenize list didn't have chychrun in the top ten.. - burn
Good for him. I said scouting agencies.
Mackenzie is the best out there, but it's still one person's opinion. Different from a scouting agency. I tend to take the scouting agencies a little more seriously than a single journalists opinion. he's better than Button or that other goof, but still just one guy. |

This year's entire draft for the Leafs, Matthews aside, was a giant "huh?" for every pick.
I don't even bother with scouting rankings anymore. Just trust that Hunter knows whats up |

His list is made up of nhl scouts, and was more accurate than what the scouting agencies had.
No one should have been surprised when chychrun dropped out of top ten. He was falling all year and when nhl scouts were polled he was outside the top 10. And then that's what happened. |

As I said, the scouting agencies had Juolevi in the 10-15 range. You disagreed. now you're quoting Bob Mackenzie as proof that scouting agencies said different. You're wrong, get it?
As far as Juolevi goes, sorry, I think he'll drop back down. He had one year, that I think was helped out a great deal by his teammates. This question gets asked of lots of players - was it him, or did the fact that his teammates tore the league up help him out. I think it did. |

Remember that time we gave you Seguin and Hamilton for Kessel
Then you traded both those guys away and have nothing to show for it
Then we traded Kessel away and have nothing to show for it
Then Kessel won the cup?

Chycrun wasn't unanimous ahead, as I pointed out with tsn list (sportsnet also said "most expect julevi to be first dman taken and had chychrun out of top ten")
If you wish to call what I said wrong so be it.... Not all said he was going to be fist dman picked and was going to be 5th overall, and what bob and sportsnet said would happen did in fact happen..... So call that wrong all you want, but fact is it did indeed happen like that in real life and those scouting agencies were in fact wrong. |
