100% agree that he can't stay healthy. but that shouldn't take away from what he is doing posting above 1ppg almost every season.
- martox

If I continue the list he is probably 11 or 12.

Did Kane "lead his team to a Stanley Cup" the year he won the Conn Smythe? Or Keith the year he won it?

Or is it more likely that the Blackhawks just have an insanely deep team and are really good, collectively. Toews is a strong player and a great leader but he's not in a top-10 player in this league.

- eichiefs9

Well... yeah? They did? The definition of leading a team doesn't mean you're doing it by yourself but if you're playing well enough to win the conn smythe, I'd say you've led your team for sure.

And we we're talking about him being a top 10 center, top 10 player is even more debatable.

No Thornton? I don't expect him to keep it up, but his last season was crazy good in both offense and defense.

Love Thornton as well but like Malkin he just falls in the 11-15 range for me. Also he and Pavelski are hard to rank as they tend to share center responsibilities as they usually play together.

Jonathan Toews shouldn't be on this list.... he's great, but no more than a 60-something point player. He's nothing compared to Kane.

The conversation, and the blog, was about top 10 players.

Also, the Conn Smythe is a great honor and all, but it hardly makes your team's accomplishment any kind of barometer of your own personal skill level.

I find that Pavelski never gets enough love. I'd have him higher than even your list puts him, but they are opinions for a reason.

Are you implying that JS Giguere and Cam Ward aren't two of the greatest goalies in history?

Toews is very good, but not great.

His contract detracts from his value as well.

He's Patrice Bergeron with more hype and a way better team.

The blog was about top 10 players, my conversation with someone else (which you decided to join) was about top 10 centers, just backread a little.

But I understand what you mean. I just think he still deserves more credit than some people tend to give him for winning 3 stanley cup.

Hes probably not to worried. 3 Cups, 2 gold medals, major awards, smoke show of a GF, making money hand over fist...has a lake named after him.

Im sure hes cool just being a really good NHL player vs fighting for a top 10 elite status

Ovechkin puts up a lot of goals, yet nobody ever mentions how many shots he puts on net.

Taking a look at shooting percentages, Ovechkin only ranks 44th for career shooting percentage among active players.

http://www.hockey-referen...ders/shot_pct_active.html

His defense has improved, but is still lacking.

Without so many shots on net, he's good, but, in my mind, not the "elite goal scorer" that is constantly thrown out there. And wouldn't even be ranked as high as 11 in my list of the best players...

- ChrisMaze

Adjusted for the era in which he plays, Ovechkin is the greatest scorer of all time. All you need to know about this list is they think Doughty is better than Ovechkin, which is crazy.

That's unpossible.
