Neither are better all-around than Karlsson. They may not be far off, but they're not better. - Rinosaur
I've posted my list. Why don't you use your powers of deduction and see what you come up with. |

He's averaging 5th overall on yahoo, but fantasy draft is about a subset of stats.

Karlsson is not an all around defenseman. He is an offensive defenseman. |

4. Kopitar
5. Tavares
6. Seguin

Stamkos isn't a centre anymore and Giroux doesn't deserve to be there. |

But he absolutely massacres the offense part in a way only seen in Hall of Fame-level talents like Lidstrom, Coffey, and Bourque. He's not even all that bad at the D part; he's around average. |

14th in the NHL in point scoring the past 3 years while having a two-way game that ranks in the top three among forwards and he's had playoffs success. If your opinion is that he shouldn't be there, then nor should Toews or Bergeron (both with fewer points). |

LOL This list isn't biased at all.
Toews had a very average year when compared to the top players in the NHL. Remember, because some people keep forgetting, this list reflects what just happened this season. Not the season before or the season before that. Toews has no business up there this year. He really wasn't the player he normally is.
Keith is definitely a top ten dman in the league, but he's not a top ten player nor is he better than Karlsson.
Crawford isn't ANYWHERE near the top five goalies in the NHL. Quick, Bishop, Jones: All better than Crawford. I'd like to say Fleury is better, but I know I'll get the homer argument.
You could probably make an argument that Crawford is top ten, but even that might be tough to do. |

Karlsson is not an all around defenseman. He is an offensive defenseman. - MJL
First, let's go by the fact you didn't properly read what the original poster said that I replied to. Nobody said they were "all around defensemen." He stated that Subban and Pietrangelo are better all around that Karlsson. That's a pretty clear distinction.
For argument's sake, let's go by your logic:
Subban and Pietrangelo are both offensive defensemen. So, any way you cut it, you're wrong. |

As a neutral third party, I think Karlsson gets too much unfair criticism for his defensive play. His speed and skating are phenomenal assets when it comes to playing defense and those 2 attributes alone make it difficult for him to ever be beat 1 on 1, and if he is, 9 times out of 10 he will recover and outskate you to strip the puck.
He's not a physical, crease-clearing Chara-in-his-prime defensive defenseman, but it is very difficult to beat him 1 on 1 or score against him when he's on the ice. |
