He has been on a decline for the past 3 seasons and his underlying numbers show that his defensive impacts have been overrated for quite some time. If you would like you can post some actual information to prove Toews is a top 10 center.

Thanks for all the knowledge. Every GM in the league would rank him as a Top 10. Better tings to do than continue this convo.

You could say that about lots of players considering the advancements in health and training facilities.
- classic321

yes I agree, I think just about any player in todays NHL on speed alone would be better than a lot of those 70s and 80s players. Ovechkin/Crosby/Kane ect would be in a different class though.

What is the real meaning of this list though?

I look at it from the point of view that if you were to completely redraft the league, who would go 1-10. (Edit: players on 1 year contracts before they are reshuffled)

In that case I think there's a lot more wiggle room for guys like Pavelski, McDavid to find their way in and Ovi to be left off.

- Blue Clam

If that were how they were looking at it, I don't think you'd find anyone who wouldn't have McDavid top-3. It's about who is legitimately the top players in the league at this current time.

Can he play at least a full season first, before getting slotted in Top 10 in the league please?

5 Guys?

Kane - Clearly
Panarin - Arguable but Ok
Keith - Arguable but Ok
Toews - NO
Seabrook - HAHAHAHAHA

- classic321

You know I meant league not Hawks. I'm not a big homer.

You can argue Toews. Flip them and who is a better team? I'd say it makes the Hawks worse. Am I bias probably a bit. I also don't by the Toews is overrated or on the decline crap. That being said.....

I love Ovi for what he is (he is one of my favorite players) but I don't think he is the guy who you build around to win a Cup. Generational goal scorer no doubt. Does he give you that much more than a Perry or Stamkos though? Probably not. The fact he is a Wing and not a Centermen also moves him out of my Top 5.

Ranking players is so subjective though. I mean Malkin might be the most talented player in the NHL but he can't stay healthy. Bias show up though when I see people not ranking Toews as a Top 10 Center or not having Keith as a Top 10 D.

A lot depends on linemates too. Aside from Crosby and Kane no other players can really carry an entire line and not have their offensive stats drop significantly.

It is also hard as a casual fan to watch the best players consistently.

No, it's genius. Because now 3,000 morons are smashing their keyboards and giving free publicity to a failing, garbage publication.

They still think Ken Campbell is worth reading. The only value his articles have is when I'm camping and out of toilet paper.

Have you seen the kid play? Regardless of whether you like or agree with it, he's going to brought into that kind of discussion because of the extreme nature of his talents.

44 and 50 more goals than them respectively over the past 3 years soooo yes. He gives you much MUCH more than those other two in that capacity.

I wanna stress again that this isn't TSN's 'Franchise Faceoff' where we're voting on who should be the cornerstone of your franchise. They're voting and picking the best players in the world. If someone is the best goal scorer in the world (potentially in history) it has gotta be all but impossible to leave him off the list.

On the second bolded part; Connor McDavid.

2 assists and a -2 in the final series of 2016 doesn't exactly screen "I can carry a line"

I have, and I don't place too much praise on players until I see them perform in playoffs.

Why make a list where you mix goalies and players, even forwards and defensemen... how can you say that Price is better than Ovechkin? Pretty dumb list imo

In no particular order:

Crosby
Ovechkin
Price
Karlsson
Kane
Kopitar
Tarasenko
Benn
Malkin
Seguin

I know people will think I'm being a homer by throwing Malkin in there and I think he gets overlooked because of injuries the past few years, but it's hard to argue with his results and how he dominated when healthy this year.

How is Seguin not in the top ten?

McDavid probably will be a Top Ten player, but as good as he was I can't put him up there just yet. I feel like the Hockey News were obligated to throw a young player like him up there to make it interesting.

Go ahead Feds... let me see that head shake

Finished 4th in goals, finished ahead of of most of the guys on this list in points, was incredible in the first two rounds of the playoffs, and arguably has the best wrist shot in the game. There's no way he's not top 10.

CURRENT Top 10 NHL Centers

1. Crosby
2. McDavid
3. Bergeron
4. Kopitar
5. Tavares
6. Seguin
7. Giroux
8. Kuznetsov
9. Pavelski
10. Stamkos

- Feds91Stammer

First list with Bergy, still don't understand the idea that he is underrated as he shuts down every player on that list in most cases.

The Kopitar is better and but east coaste bias concept is silly. Toews had a down year but still has 3 Cups.

Bergy shuts these guys down and he shuts Crosby and Malkin down, and they are the best two players in the world in my opinion.

Still wating on a "HEAD TO HEAD CORSI" to see the difference when studs play studs........

The list is about THIS year, not prior years. Toews was good this year, but he was not top-ten good.
