I think its time we abandoned the national anthem before sporting events. These forms of protests like kaeperniks and the idiot at the mlb allstar game will just continue. As much as a national anthem can be entertaining or moving, its no longer needed in sports.
The old timers and patriots will female dog and moan and its understandable but these leagues have so many nationalities, religions and personal beliefs that forcing someone to stand for a anthem that doesnt represent them doesnt seem fair or right.
Another option is to play the anthems before players come out to the field/ice/court so players can keep their beliefs and fans keep the anthem.

Personally I think the outrage over some athlete not standing for the anthem is overblown. He's an athlete, not exactly someone important. I, for one, couldn't care less.

I grew up watching hockey. Watching the players and goalies included remove their helmets, many of them mouthing the lyrics of both O Canada and the Star Spangled Banner regardless of their birthplace, the others standing respectfully quiet. Last year at a game of my local WHL team, there was sound issues and the young girl singing the anthems could not be heard.. in it's place the fans in attendance sang both anthems. Hearing 6000 hockey fans in Alberta sing the Star Spangled Banner gently, before a more enthusiastic version of O Canada was enough to make all my hairs stand up, and tears to flow from the eyes of some of the young players. Maybe hockey players are just a classier bunch.

In this case, Kap's actions have done almost nothing to correct the perceived injustice he is protesting....all it's done so far is allow me to enjoy the boob show happening now.

Keep up the protests!

It brings attention to a real problem. It's always amusing that people have a problem with protesters, but never with the problems they are protesting (usually because they're deeply ingrained in our society and seem normalized).

Personally, I think he did something positive with his celebrity and I commend him for it.
