That also means that young blacks put themselves in situations where police are needed 2.3 times more than young whites.

52% of all murders are committed by blacks yet they only make up 12% of the population. Statistics works both ways just like in hockey. Why is it that 12 percent of the population commit over half of the murders in this country? Because white people oppress them??

- Stripes77

No. I don't think white people oppress them.

I think it's because societal realities like inexorable poverty and the complete erosion of the traditional family unit - along with other factors including badly structured government assistance programs - create oppressive environments. But regardless of the source of the oppression, it's still oppressive.

and I agree but that's not the bigger issue and if that's what you think is the bigger issue then I can't help you

But that doesn't mean that police involved casualties isn't an issue

52% of all murders done by 12% of the population and you want to pick the half dozen times in the last decade an unarmed black man was killed at a traffic stop?

Bravo!

That fact that there is even one is a (frank)ing travesty that should make everybody's blood boil...

I have a family member in the BPD, who works in narcotics, literally said that he will only pull whites over in certain areas, and blacks or Hispanics over in other areas.

His partner is black. His wife is Puerto Rican. He is either a weird type of racist, or was trained to racially profile people.

If you don't think people are racially profiled by the police.....No one can help you

i don't really see the problem in it.. i also don't have major issues with what kappy did. i don't agree with the method but the message is needed.. i think if anythign he is pissed that the discussion is not over what he wanted it to be over
- IndianaSabresFan

And the fact that there is such limited and non-transparent discussion into the issues is why he felt the need to protest in the first place.

I don't believe it was perhaps the best protest (given that what he is protesting is something that will need to be addressed on the individual state/jurisdiction level, not the federal level), but the fact that there is something to protest should be the main thing that people are discussing...

Innocent people dying is a much bigger issue than someone not standing for a flag.

And that's the biggest issue there - the level of training that people receive prior to being put out in the field with a lot of power, danger, and a loaded weapon. The fact that this is an issue (and it is, despite many assertions to the contrary by those in certain political positions) points to the fact that these men and women are simply not given the training that they require in order to perform at the top of their profession. That's not on them, but it needs to be addressed. An officer firing their weapon should always be the last resort, and should only ever be done when there is imminent threat to the life of another.

My guess is we want the cops to be better than the criminals, don't we?

Of course its bad when the criminals commit crimes, but we have to sort of expect that. When the COPS are the ones committing the crimes - then what??

And here is the real problem.

Those on the left complain about guns and violence and right wing groups such as the NRA etc etc etc and refuse to enter discussions with those on the right. Those on the right blame liberal media and hold the second amendment as being of more importance than human life and refuse to enter discussion with those on the left.

Rinse, wash, repeat and continue...

Yeah... c'est la vie.

I'm much more attracted to ladies like AJ Cook, Rachel Bilson and Anna Kendrick who are more natural, and don't wear half a ton of make up

And the fact that partisan media outlets such as Fox/Breitbart and NBC/CNN exist and are able to put their own political spin on the news is in itself a shame... especially as Al Jazeera US got recently closed, and did a far superior job of actually reporting the news, rather than making it...

Still, at least there's the BBC...

IMO, the big issue is that when the mistakes do happen (I don't believe policemen leave the house with the intention of killing someone) they are not held accountable for the most part.

If the ones who committed murder, are charged with murder, things would be different

Here is my last post on this matter:

Does training need to be better for police officers? Of course everyone needs better training, you could be the best cop in the world but more training wouldn't hurt.

But what I really don't agree with is a movement started because a criminal tried to kill a cop. So using his death as the face of a movement holds zero water with me. Where is the personal accountability. Certain sides think cops just pull over black people and shoot them. That doesn't happen. But I do know people drive down certain streets and just open fire and kill hundreds of innocent people in the process.

The bigger issue to me has and always will be fixing the communities where these take place from a social stance not a legal stance. Chicago has the highest gun control laws in the country yet have the most gun related murders. Gun control doesn't work in a place where criminals will get guns no matter what. Fix the social issues and the murders will subside.

The biggest issue is nobody knows how to fix those issues. I certainly don't have answers to that.

The whole Guns don't kill people, people kill people vs guns kill people debate is tiresome to me,.

Fix the bigger issue and I would be willing to bet the results would be in the positive nature.
