Yeah, pretty sure all you need to do is keep qualifying the player when you need to and he remains NYR property. It's what the Isles have been doing with Mikko Koskinen for a long time.

Frankly, he probably sees the writing on the wall that Hank's retirement isn't imminent, but isn't all that far away either. 3 years is probably a realistic time frame for him to work on his game, get his feet under him and eventually come over here.

The Rangers goal tending future is actually quite good. Halversson, Huska and Shesterkin all have made their respective WJC teams at least once. Huska is now at Ohio State, he's a little bit away.

If there is one thing I refuse to ever place a label on, it's goaltending prospects. 9.9 times out of 10 the ones drafted highest blow and the ones drafted in the 7th round end up being awesome.

Ilya Sorokin has been absolutely lights out in the KHL and internationally. His numbers last year were utterly mind-boggling, in a good way. I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if he came over here and totally sucked.

Not knocking the Rangers prospects either, it's just too much of a crapshoot for me to get excited/upset about anyone.

I am sincerely hoping Sorokin can be 3/4 as good in the NHL as he has been in the KHL. Also hoping that when he comes, he brings Golyshev with him. Loved that pick in the draft this year.

I know and he'll only be 23. But by that time Lundqvist will be almost 38. That means you'd have to hope Halversson pans out and Huska still might be with Ohio State.

I agree. I think goaltenders are a total crapshoot. I like what the Rangers have done in compiling a few, with the hope that one eventually hits.
